United striker Rob Hulse has promised United's 'magnificent' supporters that The Whites will be even more determined to win automatic promotion next season.
Acknowledging the support he and his team-mates have had over the past nine months, the hit man has called on fans to stick with the team and pledged to give his all in return.

The 29-year-old played the full 90 minutes in Leeds' 3-0 defeat to Watford at the Millennium Stadium and believes that having gotten so close only for the Premiership prize to elude them at the last hurdle, will act as a spur next season.

Said Rob: "I am gutted, we all are but it's time to reflect on it now and show that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

"We have to come back next year just as determined if not more so because of that defeat.

"Automatic promotion will always be what we plan to do, we will just come back to pre-season more determined to avoid days like that one.

"I wish I had the answers to what went wrong but I don't; we've wanted to do it, we've worked hard all year from the players, staff to the girls in the canteen to get us here.

"The fans have been great all year and a lot of them stayed right to the end and we appreciate that and we want to repay them next year for it,
"To lose like we did was massively disappointing, especially for the fans that came down to see us, we won't forget that and I certainly won't forget that today how good they were. They stood with us for 90 minutes and our message right now is don't give up on us because we won't give up on trying to get this club back to the Premiership.

"We have to be positive, we will obviously mourn this defeat but you can't stay like that forever. We will try and look at the positives from the season and we know we have to work on a few things.  We have learnt some valuable things from this season and hopefully it will have made us stronger as a team."

Hulse is already thinking about next season and is far from pessimistic about what the future holds for the club.

"We were sat in the changing rooms and we all feel like the season has been a complete disaster but if you look at it in the cold light of day we have still had a good season.

"I don't see why we can't keep the team together, we are such a big club who wouldn't want to play for this club with the fans, facilities and the proud history?  Hopefully we'll stick together and maybe bring in a few more players for next year and keep building.

"I know it's difficult to stay positive at the moment but we have to just kick on."

Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell has revealed that winger Aaron Lennon had to take a massive cut in wages to join Tottenham.

The 19-year-old, who has been included in England's World Cup squad, left Leeds to join Spurs for £1m last July.

But Blackwell told Five Live: "He actually took a wage cut to go to Tottenham from Leeds.

"The contract that he had was so prohibitive to Leeds - it came from the Premiership days - that there was no way we could afford to keep him."

Lennon made his Premiership debut for the Elland Road club at the age of 16 and spent one season in the Championship with Leeds before making the switch to White Hart Lane.

Although Lennon impressed for England B against Belarus on 25 May, he has yet to make his full England debut.

But former boss Blackwell is tipping Lennon to make a name for himself at this year's World Cup in Germany.

He said: "I think Aaron will come on later in games and he's a great weapon to bring on.

"The international stage doesn't yet really know about Aaron just yet."

Blackwell also believes Lennon could give captain David Beckham a run for his money in the team.

He added: "I don't think going into the World Cup you can go in with a load of inexperienced players, so David Beckham has a major role to play.

"But time catches up with us all and we all have to sometimes look over our shoulders."






Leeds have parted company with assistant boss Sam Ellis by mutual consent after his contract at Elland Road expired.

The former Lincoln manager joined Leeds from Burnley in 2004 and has helped boss Kevin Blackwell revive fortunes.

Blackwell told the Leed's website: "Sam has been with us for two seasons and has been instrumental in helping build the club back up from the ruins.

"He has done a fantastic job and he leaves with our thanks."

Ian Harte (born August 31, 1977 in Drogheda) is an international footballer for the Republic of Ireland national football team. His current club, Levante UD, signed him from Leeds United in 2004. Harte joined Leeds United from Irish club Home Farm FC in 1995. He played for Leeds for nine seasons and was an integral part of their team alongside his uncle Gary Kelly.

Harte is widely regarded as being one of the best free kick takers in World Football, but his defensive frailties have meant that he is not regarded as an excellent player. He is also a proficient penalty taker, and has scored many set pieces for the Republic of Ireland.

Harte has played for the Republic of Ireland on 64 occasions, scoring 14 goals. He was handed his international debut in 1996 against Croatia having made just four appearances for Leeds and earned a regularly starting berth for the 1998 World Cup qualifying campaign. However, as his club career flourished post 1998, he found himself out of the reckoning at international level though he returned for the 2002 World Cup qualifiers and was the only player to play every minute as Ireland reached the World Cup for the first time in eight years. He also notched up three goals during the campaign — from left back — including a penalty against Iran in the play-off though he struggled at the World Cup because of a toe injury and the emergence of John O'Shea has restricted his appearances under Brian Kerr. Was recalled to the team for the home match against Israel on March 26, 2005 and the away game in the Faroe Islands three days later. Harte scored in both games, which marked his return to the Irish senior football set-up.

Ian is keen for a move away from Levante UD after their relegation to the Spanish second division. Speculation is rife that an agreement has already been agreed in principal with English Premiership side Aston Villa FC. Harte would be seen as the perfect solution to what has been a troubled left side for Villa.

Leeds United's Jermaine Wright has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent, reports BBC Radio Leeds.

The 30-year-old, who signed on a free transfer from Ipswich two years ago, made only three appearances for Leeds last season, out of 40 in total.

He was loaned to Millwall and Southampton during his time at Leeds.

The midfielder, who had a year left on his contract, is now free to join another club without payment of a compensation fee.

Former United and England star Nigel Martyn has announced his playing days are over due to injury.

The 39-year-old keeper was an integral part of Leeds' success between 1996 and 2003, including the Champions League campaign that saw the club reach the semi-finals in 2001.

Martyn played 273 games for the club since his £2.25m switch - then a domestic transfer record for a goalkeeper - from Crystal Palace in January 1996. 

In his first season at United he kept 20 Premiership clean sheets with George Graham as manager, and won the Player of the Year award in 1997.

He moved to Everton in June 2003 after spending a frustrating last season on the bench with Terry Venables electing to make current England No.1 Paul Robinson his first choice keeper.  He had held onto a first-team slot for six seasons, uninterrupted except by injury, and it signalled the end of his spell at Elland Road.

Now a persistent ankle problem has forced him to call it a day with over 800 domestic appearances for Bristol Rovers, Crystal Palace, Leeds and Everton to his name.

Martyn told www.evertonfc.com: "It was a decision based on being able to live a normal sort of life afterwards - that was the primary concern because it is a nasty bone to have a problem in."

Martyn was capped 23 times by England, the majority coming during his spell at Elland Road.

He was voted in the top 20 of the club's greatest players and was recently named in the Greatest Leeds United Team, polling in more votes than the likes of David Harvey, Gary Sprake and John Lukic.

The draw has been made for the first round of the 2006/07 Carling Cup.

With Premiership clubs not entering the competition until the second and third rounds, the draw involves the 72 Football League clubs.

In the northern section, Football League newcomers Accrington Stanley have been drawn at home to former European Cup winners Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile, newly-relegated 2001 finalists Birmingham City will be at home to League Two side Shrewsbury.
