Leeds stung by Riordan price tag

Leeds United are unwilling to pay Celtic's £1m asking price for once-capped Scotland striker Derek Riordan, BBC Radio Leeds understands.

United previously tried to bring the 25-year-old former Hibernian star to Elland Road on loan in January.

Riordan scored over 60 goals in three seasons at Easter Road but has made only 13 starts since switching to Glasgow giants Celtic two years ago.

Championship outfit Burnley are also believed to be after the forward.

The striker, a free agent after leaving Sunderland, is also wanted by a number of Championship clubs.

Cole would not have to move however if he signed on at Elland Road and his capture would satisfy Gary McAllister's desire to make a big-name summer signing.

The Leeds boss has already made an ambitious attempt to land West Brom's Kevin Phillips.

To Elland back? Leeds hope to re-sign Fulham striker David Healy

Fulham striker David Healy is a target for former club Leeds.

The 28-year-old Northern Ireland international does not appear to have a future at Craven Cottage under Roy Hodgson and Leeds manager Gary McAllister hopes to tempt him back to Yorkshire.
Healy, who is also interesting Hull, moved from Elland Road last summer for £1.5million but scored only four goals in 30 league games for Fulham.

Leeds United check out Luton

Leeds United are weighing up a move for Sheffield United striker Luton Shelton.
The Jamaican international is understood to be interesting the Elland Road club as Gary McAllister prepares to begin his close-season recruitment in earnest.

But the South Yorkshire club would look to recoup a sizeable portion of the £1.85m fee they paid to Swedish club Helsingborgs for his services last year.

The 22-year-old was signed in January 2007 by former Blades manager Neil Warnock, but has started just seven league matches since and featured on only three occasions under current boss Kevin Blackwell.

The ex-Leeds manager has a number of experienced strikers available to him, including James Beattie and Rob Hulse, and Shelton may find his opportunities limited again.

Shelton has two years remaining on his contract and the talented youngster is believed to be interesting a number of other clubs.

His tally of nine goals in 19 appearances for Helsingborgs prompted his move, but Leeds would have to secure a work permit for the forward if they sign him on a permanent basis.

McAllister's only signing to date has been Andy Robinson on a free transfer from League One champions Swansea City, but a number of other new arrivals are expected to follow. Leeds have already been linked with strikers Kevin Phillips, Derek Riordan and Andy Cole.

Shelton struck twice in Jamaica's 7-0 victory over the Bahamas in a World Cup qualifier on Sunday and he has scored four goals in 10 starts for Sheffield United.

Filming started on £5m Cloughie film

The Damned United, a controvertial book about Cloughies 44 day reign at Leeds United is being filmed right now and due for release in 2009

Filming has started on a new film that features Brian Clough. 'The Damned United' does not reflect the glory days of Clough at Derby, winning their first ever League title, or even his days at Nottingham Forest. The film concentrates on the controversial 44 days he was in charge of Leeds United.

The Film is based on the book by David Peace, which was widely condemned by the Clough family, they thought the book portrayed Brian as a nasty and unfriendly man, which we all know is untrue. Peace however has a history of provocative books, one of his previous publication centred on the miners strike and its effects.
Damned United film is well financed to the tune of £5m and with plenty of first rate actors taking parts of people associated with Derby County. Michael Sheen takes the part of Brian Clough. Sheen is well know for his portrayal of Tony Blair in the film "The Queen".

Jim Broadbent takes the part of former Rams Chairman Sam Longson, who many blame for the departure of Clough from the Baseball Ground.
Clough's friend and assistant Peter Taylor is played by Timothy Spall and even the old Baseball Ground features, even though it is Chesterfields Saltergate stadium painted green to look like the Baseball ground of the 70's.

£20,000 of the £5m budget for the film has already been spent re-creating the training grounds of Leeds United. The car parks around Elland Road have been turfed just for the filming of this film.

Producer of the film Andy Harries assures everyone that this film is not as dark as the book. Although not a comedy the film will have a light hearted approach to the subject matter, which are the 44 days that Brian Clough was in charge of Leeds United.

The film is due for release next year 2009 and there will be just a few thousand Derby County, Forest and other football supporters who will not take kindly if the Great Brian Clough is shown in a bad light, so take heed Mr Harries and Peace! .....

Leeds interested in Liverpool duo

Leeds have been linked with a possible loan move for promising young Liverpool teenagers Krisztian Nemeth and Astrit Ajdarevic.

Gary McAllister, who retains close links with Anfield, is reported to have invited the pair to join up with his squad at Thorp Arch for pre-season training.

Striker Nemeth, 19, earned a call-up to the Hungary squad last season after scoring nine times for Liverpool's reserves.

Kosovo-born Ajdarevic, 18, a left-sided midfielder, represented Sweden in the recent UEFA Under-17s Championship.

Both players are on the fringe of Rafa Benitez's first-team squad at Anfield, but the Liverpool manager may prefer them to gain regular first-team football at Elland Road next season.
