Enable AirPlay Video Streaming in All iOS Apps with AirVideoEnabler


It was only a few days ago when a proof of concept hack for streaming videos via AirPlay using third party apps was shown on video. This was based on Erica Sadun’s discovery, details on which can be found here.



By default, Apple’s AirPlay video streaming feature is limited to YouTube app only. But now, a new Cydia app by the name of AirVideoEnabler is available with which you can now enable video streaming from your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch to Apple TV 2G using any third party apps, such as Safari.

Make sure you have a jailbroken iPhone/iPod touch/iPad on iOS 4.2.1, a step by step guide for which can be found here.

How to Save SHSH Blobs Directly From iPhone, iPad, iPod touch Using iSHSHit


iSHSHit is a new Cydia app that is an alternative to Tiny Umbrella. It lets you save and backup SHSH blobs directly off your iOS device. It also has the original functionality of being able to send your saved SHSH blobs via email, which is a very handy feature. It also automatically uses the Cydia On-File service, meaning that your SHSH blobs will also be saved on the Cydia servers.



iSHSHit is very straight forward and simple to use. After installing it from Cydia, just click on the save icon at the top right corner, and wait for it to save your SHSH blobs to Cydia. Once your SHSH blob has been saved, you will get a message as can be seen in the screenshots below.



                   

In case you don’t already know, saving SHSH blobs have proved to be very useful for downgrading to older firmwares. Recent tweets from Comex suggests that they will also be required for untethered jailbreaks in future.

"iSHSHit allows you to back up device firmware SHSH blobs from Apple directly on your device for later downgrading. It automatically uses the Cydia On File service in the background, so it’s a great way to ensure that your SHSH is stored by Cydia. iSHSHit can also email your SHSH blobs to you for more permanent storage."



You will, of course, need to have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch to install it. Follow our step by step guide posted here to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with Redsn0w on iOS 4.2.1, or with Limera1n on iOS 4.1 if you haven’t already.

Watch Dailymotion, Flickr Video, MegaVideo and Vimeo embeds on iOS, no jailbreak required




A new iOS tool called iOSFlashVideo found on iSpazio allows you to view Flash embedded movies on iOS devices.  The bookmarklet allows videos from Dailymotion, Flickr Video, MegaVideo and Vimeo that are embedded Flash in websites to play using their backend H.264 video.  It is basically the same trick that Apple uses to allow embedded YouTube Flash video to be played without Flash.

We hope (expect?) Apple to make this available natively at some point in the future.

Enable AirPlay From iPhone, iPad, iPod touch to Mac with AirPlayer


After releasing a jailbreak app which enables AirPlay functionality via third-party apps, Erica Sadun has now released AirPlayer for Mac OS X which mimics as Apple TV (2nd-gen) to playback videos from iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to your Mac. Perfect for those of you who use 27-inch iMac or Cinema Display as your TV !



She explains her app as follows:

     "What AirPlayer does is create and advertise a custom Bonjour AirPlay service that pretends to be an Apple TV. Bonjour is Apple’s zero configuration networking solution for allowing devices and applications to communicate with each other over local area networks. When Apple created AirPlay, it basically set up a new way for Apple TV to interact with iOS using Bonjour communications.

    … I was able to put together a basic OS X application that more or less pretends to be an Apple TV.

    By interacting with iOS devices the same way that Apple TV does and providing the same kinds of services and feedback, AirPlayer allows you to use your iDevice’s built in AirPlay support to send video to your Mac."

Oh and you don’t even need to jailbreak your iOS device ! All you need is a iPhone, iPad or iPod touch which is running iOS 4.2.1, and a Mac running AirPlayer software and you are good to go.

But if you plan on using this functionality using third-party apps such as AirVideoEnabler or Air Home Video, you will have to jailbreak your iOS device on iOS 4.2.1, instructions for which can be found here.

Untethered iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak for iPhone 4 Is On Track For Release On Christmas Eve !


Earlier this month, Comex of Spirit and JailbreakMe fame confirmed that a more efficient userland-based untethered jailbreak method for iOS 4.2.1 will be released before Christmas 2010.



And now, MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team has given further confirmation that a untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 4.2.1 is indeed in works, and that it will be ready for prime-time use somewhere around Christmas.

AirMediaPlayer Brings AirPlay Video Streaming From iPhone, iPad to Windows PCs


We have already seen a tool named AirPlayer for Mac OS X which allows you to AirPlay videos from iOS devices to Macs. And now, a similar tool named AirMediaPlayer for Windows has been released which will allow you to stream videos wirelessly from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your Windows PCs.



    "AirMediaPlayer for Windows is a Windows-based AirPlay Media Player, which allows your iOS device to stream media to your PC."

To get AirMediaPlayer working, you will need:

    * A Windows XP, Vista or 7 PC with .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed.
    * Bonjour for Windows (Included with iTunes, or you can download the Bonjour Print Services for Windows free from Apple)
    * QuickTime for Windows
    * iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 4.2.1

Just like AirPlayer for Mac, you don’t need to jailbreak your device to stream videos to your Windows PC. But if you plan on using this functionality using third-party apps such as AirVideoEnabler or Air Home Video, you will have to jailbreak your iOS device on iOS 4.2.1, instructions for which can be found here.

iPhone Dev-Team Releases 'Backup 'Plan' Untethered Jailbreak


The iPhone Dev-Team has released a beta of their 'backup plan' untethered jailbreak. Currently the beta is only for Mac users and is limited to iPhone4, iPad, and iPod touch 4G.

Important Points:
● This is a beta tester program. Things can go very wrong, so please don’t even consider testing if you have pictures or other media on your device that you haven’t backed up!
● For the same reason, please don’t participate if you rely on the ultrasn0w carrier unlock. Wait for the final version!
● Until we fix some sandbox issues with bluetooth, the bluetooth functionality is disabled.
● This very first beta1 is limited to iPhone4, iPad, and iPod touch 4G.
● You must already have the usbmuxd software installed and running on your Mac.

Update:
The second beta is now available (testers ONLY please!). This version should fix all the native app crashes (including Task switcher). That’s the only change in from beta1….Bluetooth is still disabled. If you had trouble using the usbmuxd in beta1, please wait until we incorporate that into redsn0w itself (i.e. don’t bother trying this beta2, just wait for the integration).

Update x2:
The third beta is now available (testers ONLY please!). This version extends the fix made in beta2 over to the non-GUI programs too (like the daemons that handle media content). That should cover things like Facetime, Winterboard themes, and embedded videos in iTunes. If you had trouble using the usbmuxd in previous betas, please wait until we incorporate that into redsn0w itself (i.e. don’t bother trying this beta3, just wait for the integration).

Reverse BitTorrent for Apps is Expected to Cause Huge Surge in App Store Piracy




A huge surge in App Store piracy is expected as the Hackulous community plans to release a 'reverse BitTorrent' system that will leverage millions of users to supply apps, according to TorrentFreak.

In the past, owners of App Store apps would have to crack the software using something like Clutch then patch, test, upload and submit it to Apptrakr in order to grow its database and enable others to download. Not surprisingly the learning curve dissuaded all but a tiny minority from even trying.

Described by Dissident as a kind of 'reverse BitTorrent', Mobile Hunt is a clever way of utilizing an existing network of millions of peers to provide a solution to the app supply bottleneck.

"Essentially what will happen is when you're using Installous you'll get a little pop up that says 'Hey, you have an application that Apptrakr doesn't. We will add the application to a queue in the background (if you say yes) and it will start uploading tiny pieces of it, kind of like a torrent, up to the cloud'," Hackulous admin Dissident explains.

The tiny pieces from each person’s device will then be combined to make one final copy which will then be available on Apptrakr for anyone to download.

Hackulous has also announced that it's already cracked the security of the unreleased Mac App Store. Using a new product called 'Kickback' they plan to offer free downloads for Mac Apps. Dissident notes that Kickback won't be released until the Mac App Store is saturated with "tons of crap".

"Most of the applications that go on the Mac App Store [in the first instance] will be decent, they’ll be pretty good. Apple isn’t going to put crap on the App Store as soon as it gets released. It’ll probably take months for the App Store to actually have a bunch of crappy applications and when we feel that it has a lot of crap in it, we’ll probably release Kickback."
