Disruptor™ nanoalumina filter technology

Disruptor™ is a wet laid technology that is designed to be used in pleated, spiral wound, disc or flat sheet media formats. The key to the effectiveness of Disruptor™ is the grafting of alumina nanofibers onto microglass fiber. The microglass fiber acts as a platform for the nanoalumina while also enhancing flow rates through the creation of pore space and providing mechanical retention for large or uncharged particles. The nanoalumina fibers are approximately 2 nm in diameter and several hundred nm in length, having a typical surface area of 350-500 m2 per gram. The blend of the nano and macro fibers in Disruptor™ allows for the creation of media with exceptional pressure drop to efficiency ratios and an incredible dust holding capacity. Because it is a depth filter it has inherent reliability benefits over polymeric membranes.

Disruptor™ media has a pore size of approximately 2 microns. Due to the vast surface area and huge electropositive charge of the nanoalumina fibers, the media can remove 98% of all 0.025 micron particles (based on MS2 virus) with one layer, 99.98% with two layers and 99.9999% using three layers of media.

Disruptor™ technology has been proven to remove a wide range of contaminants from water including: bacteria, virus; metals such as lead iron, tin, copper, chrome 3, and aluminum as well as colloidal minerals such as carbon dust and silica.

These unique characteristics make Disruptor™ an excellent choice as an alternative filter media to membranes for many applications. These include: Point Of Entry and Point Of Use potable water, pharmaceutical make up water, boiler feed water, chiller water, metals removal from waste water; filtration of gelatin, inks, starch, carbon, paint pigments and many other industrial and pharmaceutical processes. Disruptor™ functions effectively in liquid applications of both high and low salinity, up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and between ph4 and ph9.

Depending on the process and filter design, Disruptor™ technology can be used instead of MF and UF membranes, microglass and filter pads in many applications. Disruptor™ can also improve flux rates through effective pre-filtration of RO, UF and MF feed water to reduce fouling due to biologic, iron or colloidal silica and particulate contamination.

Chemprene offers complete design capability and process control for every aspect of the development and manufacture of your product from concept through delivery.

Chemprene established itself in the marketplace over 50 years ago by focusing on manufacturing military and government rubber coated fabric specifications. In the late 1950's, Chemprene expanded from military into automotive and specialty diaphragm applications. The business continued to evolve, and today many of the new applications are commercial in nature. The capabilities added by the development of their conveyor belting product line in the 1960's made it possible for Chemprene to expand into many high quality, engineered applications which require product standards well above industry norms.

Chemprene developed a unique blend of capabilities through the years.

    * They manufacture both lightweight coated fabrics and multi-ply conveyor belt constructions at their plant in Beacon, New York. Specifications range in thickness from .005" to .300".
    * Chemprene produces both unsupported and fabric inserted materials. Their company offers a full range of rubber and thermoplastic polymer mixing, liquid coating, calendering, and curing processes.
    * Chemprene can calender and solvent coat materials to 72" wide. In addition to solvent liquid coating, they offer a variety of environmentally friendly aqueous solution coating options.
    * Chemprene produces a variety of uncured precision calendered materials in addition to their standard cured specifications. In their finishing area they can drum cure, autoclave, or rotocure products, depending on what characteristics are required in the final product, to a width up to 72" for most specifications.


Product Design
A large percentage of Chemprene's products have been engineered to perform in customer specified or private brand applications. Many of these products have been designed and developed by Chemprene chemists in their prototype pilot lab. The pilot lab is for the ongoing innovation in product development. In this lab most manufacturing processes can be simulated and products can be developed economically on a smaller scale. Once a specification has been developed and approved by the customer, it is then released to manufacturing engineering and the material is scaled up to production quality.

Raw Materials
Chemprene utilizes a wide variety of raw materials in manufacturing their products:

POLYMERS: Silicone, Fluoroelastomer, Chlorobutyl, ECO, EPDM, Neoprene, Nitrile, Natural Rubber, Polyurethane, PVC, Polyolefin.

FABRICS: Fiberglass, Kevlar®, Nomex®, Nylon, Cotton, Polyester, and a variety of blended fabric constructions.

Markets Served
Chemprene calendered products are specified in a multitude of applications and markets in the U.S. and internationally. The specifications for various markets range from military requirements to customer driven commercial product standards.
