ASUS to launch an Android phone in the first half of 2009



Apparently, Asus is going to launch its first Android phone in the first half of next year. ASUS has a history of making Windows Mobile phones and we can only guess that they will continue to do so, at least for the time being. Some speculate that after launching its own Android phone, Asus will produce "white label" phones for other brands. The ASUS P552w touch-phone or something like it could be the hardware platform for an Android phone.

Well, as long as it looks better than the T-Mobile G1, I'll gladly look at it.

Glu Mobile bringing two games to Android: Brain Genius Deluxe and Bonsai Blast



It’s good to know mobile game developers and publishers are joining the Android wave, as they’ll add their contribution to make the platform popular among different kinds of users.

We’re glad report that Glu Mobile has recently announced that it will launch two titles for the Google’s mobile platform - Bonsai Blast and Brain Genius Deluxe.

The first of the two is an action-puzzle game that “challenges players to shoot and match colored balls to clear more than 20 Zen levels of rich, detailed environments.” Features include touchscreen and accelerometer-based controls; more than 20 level themed with Water, Fire, Earth and Wind; detailed graphics and animations; and three gameplay levels: ricochets, tunnelled chains, and swappable shooter locations.

As for the Brain Genius Deluxe, it’s a collection of 24 games as well as bonus puzzles that include Sudoku and Jigsaws. Again, the game relies on both a touchscreen and accelerometer, and it also features enhanced graphics and audio. Public stats are also there, allowing users to compare their performance to other device users.

EA Mobile releases Tetris for Android; Bejeweled and Monopoly coming within days/weeks



EA Mobile is committing to the Android platform. The gaming giant has made the all time popular Tetris game available for the Google’s mobile OS. In addition, EA wowed to release Bejeweled and Monopoly Here & Now Edition during the month of November.

I won’t talk much about any of the games, as I’m sure you already know everything you need to know about each of the titles. I’ll only add that all three games rely on G1’s touchscreen to deliver great gaming experience.

The problem, though, is that Andorid Market at the moment doesn’t support non-free application. That prompted EA Mobile to make its games available for download directly from their website from where users can buy them. However, as soon as Google enables users to buy apps through Android Market, I’m sure EA Mobile will be among the first companies to jump on board. In the meantime, if you’re that eager to enjoy any of the mentioned games on your G1, you’ll have to install them manually.

OpenMoko going Android?



File this under rumors, but Android Guys are suggesting that OpenMoko may join the Android party. As a matter of fact, we may hear more from OpenMoko during the month of November, when hopefully they’ll have something to announce. Who knows maybe they even release schematics and CAD files, again.

Anyway, the source argues the OpenMoko’s Android phone will boast a 2.8-inch VGA screen, WiFi support, accelerometer, 400-500 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM, 256 MB NAND Flash, GPS, and more.

The way I see it, by joining the Google’s mobile initiative, OpenMoko will go beyond true geeks, hence making its products more appealing to the general public. We’re eager to hear more on the subject…

Verizon: You don’t want that crappy G1!



Verizon knows best, right? First, they really didn’t think the iPhone 3G was good enough for you. You know, they said the signal wasn’t great, it was too expensive, and the iPhone insulted your mother behind your back. Well, apparently they’ve whipped a list of reasons why you don’t want a G1, either. By the looks of things, it looks like a total list of deal breakers! It doesn’t have stereo Bluetooth, no video capture, no audible GPS… if the device is missing all of those amazing and absolutely desirable features, then count us out! Right guys? If the list of “misses” weren’t good enough to convince you, just wait - there’s more!

Operativni sistem Android, koji se nalazi u G1 telefonima, iz dana u dan dobija sve više aplikacija i sve je popularniji kod raznih kompanija.

Bilo da su u pitanju softverske kompanije, ili one koje se bave razvojem aplikacija - Android je veoma zahvalan OS za optimizaciju. Pre svega, jer koristi "open source" (mogućnost da developeri i ljudi koji se razumeju u programiranje sami učestvuju njegovom unapređivanju).

Tako je i jedna od najvećih kompanija za proizvodnju igrica za mobilne telefone, EA Mobile, predstavila tri igre namenjene isključivo Android OS-u.

Radi se o igrama Tetris, Bejeweled i MONOPOLY Here & Now Edition koje su izuzetno popularne a mogu se naći na Java ili Symbian telefonima.

Tetris će za sada moći da koriste samo korisnici G1 telefona iz SAD, dok će se ostale dve igre pojaviti tokom novembra meseca.

$199 Australian Android phone out before Christmas

In the past few days, there were some articles on the Web saying that a small Australian company wants to make a Google Android phone and sell it across Australia.

Kogan is the company, and now it has officially announced that the Android phone will be released before Christmas, probably to the joy of many Australian mobile users.

The Kogan Android handset doesn’t have a name yet and, apparently, it’s not even built. However, the phone should resemble Apple’s iPhone in design, coming with features like GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a touchscreen. Some sort of trackball is said to be included too.

Kogan, which also manufactures HD LCD TVs, Media players, GPS devices and so on, says their Android phone will only cost $199. It’s very likely that the $199 represents Australian dollars, which means that, in fact, the mysterious Android handset will cost only about 138 US dollars.

I guess there’s nothing more to do now than to wait for the release of the promised handset.

Hopefully, for Australian Android fans, the Kogan phone will look better than the mock-up I made
