Key Chain Solar Charger

The key Chain solar charger is meant to slow down the drain of your battery, but if you’re patient enough, you might be able to charge it, although I guess that it would take a few days for a full charge (if the phone is turned off).

The manufacturer had some kind of marketing gimmick around “being green”, but that’s crap: more carbon will be generated by creating, shipping and disposing of this device than it will ever save. Price: $22

ASUS P750 secretly packing VGA resolution?

Here's one you may not have heard before: a manufacturer decides to stick a VGA touchscreen in some handset model not because it wants VGA resolution, but just because it got a killer deal on them. That's the rumor being floated on a handful of sites and forums about ASUS' monster P750 Windows Mobile 6 Professional device, with some sharp-eyed contributors noticing that each logical pixel on their devices' screens are actually comprised of -- count 'em -- four physical pixels. Indeed, a quick glance of the spec sheet for the alleged part number used reveals a "VGA/QVGA dual viewing mode," so the story seems to check out, and folks are apparently already hard at work enabling full 640 x 480 resolution on their beloved devices. Good luck, everyone!

Keepin' it real fake, part CXIV: the N95 FM radio... from Asaki  Smile

It's just what you've been waiting for -- a Nokia N95 running Windows Mobile. It looks like the rumors were true after all! What's that? This is not a real phone? It's just an FM radio with a sticker on the screen? Oh bother. Yes folks, thanks to eagle-eyed tipster Eric, you're looking at the next evolution in gadgetry -- the Asaki N95 FM radio. We're not sure what the going price for this is, but we'd imagine slightly less than $779, though the real N95 doesn't come with those totally pimped-out headphones, does it?

Japan's iPhone look alike has a sliding keypad

Say hello to iPhone-san, the Softbank 921SH also known as FullFace2. It looks like an iPhone, but it has a standard 9 button keypad, 3.2 megapixel camera and … well I can't say much more than that, the entire Softbank website is in Japanese, go figure.

Sharp Fullface2 In Japan

There is no iPhone in Japan at this point in time, but I seriously doubt that the Japanese are weeping over that fact. Not when your country has cell phones like the Sharp 921SH Fullface2! Folks in Japan will be able to touch, tap and shake the Fullface2 when it comes to different aspects of navigation, making it follow the iPhone somewhat in certain areas. Other up-to-date features include a 3.2 megapixel sensor, a microSD memory card slot (maximum of 4GB) and a 1Seg TV tuner. No idea how many yen this will cost, but it ought to cause the pocket to cringe a fair bit.

HTC patent application shows off unique dual-slider

Dual-sliders are great and all, but the price we pay for the convenience of having both a numeric keypad and QWERTY keyboard is usually a considerable amount of bulk. Even HTC is guilty of adding a bit of heft in the name of convenience. But, that could all change if our favorite Taiwanese WinMo manufacturer decides to go ahead with a patent for a unique dual-slider design. The patent application, entitled "Handheld electronic device," shows off a truly unique take on the dual-slider idea.

The use of a novel keyboard plate and slider-track allows the main display of the device to be moved from landscape to portrait mode in a diagonal direction. And, more importantly, the patent allows for a slimmer design by combining the numeric keypad and QWERTY-keyboard onto the same keyboard plate - unlike the HTC S720 that makes use of separate keypad and keyboard plates. In portrait mode, the numeric keypad is exposed. Sliding the screen diagonally into landscape mode reveals the full QWERTY keyboard.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any way of sliding the screen into a "closed" position that would cover all the keys - seeing as how the keyboard plate is larger than the display. Still, if the display is slim enough, it shouldn't matter that the numeric keypad is always exposed.

Now, lets see if HTC puts this idea into actual production…

FM Radio Aerial lets you listen radio without earphones

I never quite understood handset makers that make us use headphones in order to listen to the local radio stations. Yeah, there are already multiple radios in the device and I guess adding an FM receiver is not that easy as it sounds, but still - it should be possible.

Anyway, thanks to the neat accessory called FM Radio Aerial you will now be able to listen radio without earphones. Simply insert the Aerial into the 3.5mm audio jack, start the radio app ("Visual Radio" on Symbian S60 phones), turn on the speakers and you're ready to rock.

There is a downside, however - the Aerial has to be removed to answer an incoming or make an outgoing call. Then again, it costs 3.99 GBP (about $8) so you can't complain much. It's available on eBay, just search for "FM Aerial for Nokia N95" and you should be able to find it.

Multimedia enabled mobile phones set to outsell televisions in 2008

Research and Markets, Dublin based institution, predicts that 300 million multimedia enabled mobile phones will ship in 2008, a number that will surpass the number of television sets. A multimedia enabled mobile is defined as one that can play video and audio, that in it of itself is pretty vague considering some handsets can do that, but no one in their right mind would want to use that feature.

Can't really see this as a surprise, the market for mobiles is much larger than that of televisions, but will a mobile phone ever replace a television? Doubtful, but I do see more and more devices coming out to market with TV out.
