   Tamudo: Added to Spain squad

                                  Espanyol trio celebrate call-ups

 Espanyol are celebrating having three players in the Spain squad for the first time in almost three decades following Raul Tamudo's call-up.

 Tamudo was summoned by Luis Aragones to replace the injured David Villa for the upcoming internationals against Denmark and Finland, and the Espanyol captain will join club-mates Luis Garcia and Albert Riera in the Spain squad.

Not since 1978 have Espanyol had three players selected at the same time by Spain.

Tamudo said: "I am very happy because it has been a lot of time since I was last in.

 "The only thing I lament is that it will be to replace an injured team-mate, but I am happy for the three of us who come from Espanyol, which is a reflection of the good work of the whole squad.

 "After something of faltering start to the season and the setbacks that we suffered, we have obtained three consecutive victories, we have climbed the table and the performances of the team have been very good."

      Riera Praises Espanyol Quality

 Albert Riera believes that Espanyol's ambitions should have no limits after they recorded another impressive away win at the weekend.
 
The Mallorquin midfielder was again impressive as he celebrated his first call-up to the Spanish squad with a goal against Valencia in the victory in Mestalla.

Having beaten Sevilla in their previous away game, pundits are beginning to sit up and take note of Espanyol and Riera thinks that things have only just begun.

"It is still too soon to know what we can achieve in the league," he explained.

"The team is improving all the time and against Valencia we played well and broke a run of results against them that has gone back for many years.

"But I still do not think that we have reached our limit.

"The win in Mestalla gave us three golden points and allowed us to stay near the top, but is has also given us confidence and security as we know we are playing well."

After winning only one of their opening four matches, los Periquitos appeared set to struggle this term, but they are now in fifth place and full of confidence.

With Iván De la Peña and Rufete set to return from injury, the competition for places will be increased and the level of play will improve even more.

"This team has quality and that shows in the way we play," Riera added. "It was said in the past that we did not play good football, but it was only a matter of time."

Tamudo: It Has Been Great For Espanyol



Raúl Tamudo has had an incredible week as he earned a late call-up for Spain and then scored against Denmark in a game that ended with three Espanyol players in the side.

Los Periquitos' captain admitted that he had not expected to be named in the squad, but was delighted to have started and scored the opening goal as Luis Aragonés' outfit won 3-1 in Aarhus.

Along with Tamudo, Albert Riera made a big impression on his debut and Luis García also came on as Espanyol had a trio of players in the national team for the first time in 29 years.

"I kept working and in all honesty I did not think that I was going to be called up to the squad," Tamudo said.

"I already described how excited I was to be named.

"Now I am delighted to have scored, especially as it was the opening goal of the game.

"It is great that the three of us from Espanyol played.

"For a team like ours to have three players in the national side is unusual. It shows that we are doing things well at the club though.

"It is important for the club that we scored because it will put us in the spotlight, but we are there to help the national team."

Espanyol face Real Madrid next weekend in an enticing encounter, but Tamudo is looking forward to participating in Spain's midweek friendly beforehand.

"Real Madrid are our next opponents. They have not lost a game yet and anything could happen.

"We are doing well, above all after winning our last two away games.

"We want to continue that run of form and to make an impression against Madrid, although now I am only thinking about playing aganst Finland.

"It is not certain, but I believe Spain will be at the European Championships and hope I will be too."
