MILAN - Eight Inter players have been called up to their national teams for international matches to take place from 12-15 November. Alvaro Recoba is the only player involved in competitive action, with Uruguay to play a two-legged World Cup play-off against Australia.

 MANCINI: "A GOOD CHANCE TO WORK"

MILAN - After five days of intense training sessions and Sunday morning's 4-0 friendly match victory over Lugano at Angelo Moratti Sports Centre, Roberto Mancini has given his players today off. Training in Appiano Gentile resumes tomorrow afternoon, with six Nerazzurri still away on international duty: Marco Materazzi (Italy v Ivory Coast in Geneva), Esteban Cambiasso, Julio Ricardo Cruz, Walter Samuel and Javier Zanetti (Qatar v Argentina in Doha) and Alvaro Recoba (Australia v Uruguay in Sydney).

"It was very important to have these days to work, even if we didn't have a full squad because we were missing eight important players," Mancini said to Inter Channel. "But Adriano and Julio Cesar are back and they will be able to work with us in the coming days. We have had and we still have the chance to work well, this hadn't happened for a while. It's the first time that some players, like Figo or Adriano for example, can work for consecutive days without trips or matches. It's difficult to do without important players when you have championship or Champions League matches, and we're thinking about something for the Tim Cup week. But we will see, it's too soon."

During yesterday's friendly Mancini experimented with alternatives to the usual 4-4-2 formation that have already been tried out in training. "Yes, it's true. We tried out some different and interesting solutions, and these could be of help to us during matches because we have quality players in every role and this is an advantage," he said. "The important thing is to score and have scoring chances. It wouldn't be a bad idea to try shots from outside the area now and then seeing as we have the ability."

Ovaj igrač Čelsija koji je trenutno na pozajmici u Interu, kaže da posle toliko godina igranja po Evropi želi da se vrati u domovinu pre svega zbog svoje porodice. Iako mu ugovor sa Čelsijem ističe tek 2007. godine, naglasio je da ne želi da se vrati na Stamford Bridž.

 TRAINING: STANKOVIC BACK WITH SQUAD

The first training session of the week at Angelo Moratti Sports Centre lasted roughly ninety minutes as the Nerazzurri began preparing for Sunday evening's Serie A home match against Parma.

After recovering from the muscle injury suffered in the opening minutes of Lithuania v Serbia&Montenegro on 8 October and the flu bug that kept him from training at the weekend, Dejan Stankovic was back at work with the squad, which trained without Esteban Cambiasso, Julio Cruz, Marco Materazzi, Walter Samuel, Alvaro Recoba and Javier Zanetti who are still away with their national sides.

The players started Tuesday's training session with abdominal and warm-up exercises, continuing with technique and ball possession work in groups. The Nerazzurri then did some shooting practice and played a training match before finishing off with some running.

Cristian Kily González, Sinisa Mihajlovic (therapy, running and strength-building in the gym for both), and Marcelo Zé Maria (therapy, muscle-strengthening) did individual sessions.

The week's training continues at Angelo Moratti Sports Centre tomorrow with a double session.

FIGO: "I WANT TO DO MORE FOR INTER"

 APPIANO GENTILE - At the Meazza last night he scored his first goal for Inter. And after this morning's training session at Angelo Moratti Sports Centre, Portuguese midfielder Luis Figo held a news conference:

Are you pleased about your first goal for Inter?
"I was obviously looking to score, but for me scoring is not the most important thing. Everyone likes scoring goals, I was trying to score and I did yesterday. I was also lucky to have the right chance. It was an important goal for me, but especially for the team because of how last night's match was going."

What do you think of your first few months at Inter?
"I'm pleased with these first months at Inter, I have adapted quickly to the team. I always want to do my best. I scored yesterday but I'm not completely satisfied with my performance on the pitch. I can definitely do more."

So can we say that the Inter fans have never seen the real Figo ?
"I have to improve together with my team-mates. I have to do better because I'm not happy with what I have done so far. I want to do more and I try to do my best so this will happen."

What do you think has stopped you from being in top form until now?
"I have worked hard lately, perhaps I've just lacked a bit of continuity. I try not to have highs and lows and instead try to keep the same level of performance during a game. I demand a lot of myself and I know I can do better."
