Heads won’t drop 



The team will face Valladolid today focused on their fight for the league and Champions League. They will have to do so without Ronie, who will join the seven other players who are unable to play, thanks to some abductor problems in his right leg.

One point from their last nine and knocked out of the cup by Valencia have put a severe dent in the chances of a team who realistically are looking to win on all fronts. The cup is no longer a possibility but Barça are still in with a shout in the league (seven points behind the leaders in second place) and Champions League, where they will play Schalke 04 in the quarter-finals. This afternoon against Valladolid (17.00 h, Barça TV, PPV and Radio Barça) in the Nou Camp they will have a great chance to continue putting pressure on Real Madrid, who could start their own game against Valencia with their nearest rival only four points behind.

Reason to hope

There are still reasons to believe that it can be done. The second half in Mestalla, with the team entrenched in the opposition half right up to the final seconds, showed that Rijkaard’s men won’t drop their heads. Furthermore, the fixture list is probably more favourable to the azulgranas than the whites of Madrid, who, following their match against Valencia will face Seville and Mallorca. Barça, meanwhile, will play Betis and Getafe. Another reason to be optimistic is the imminent return of all the injured players who have been out for the last few weeks. Remember, the coaching staff had to prepare for the Almeria match and the second leg of the semi-final with only eight players.

Ronnie - out

This time Barça will be without seven injured players (Messi, Deco, Márquez, Giovani, Oleguer and Jorquera) and the suspended Milito. Ronaldinho had to pull out at the last minute with abductor problems in his right leg. Ezquerro will also be absent following a technical decision.

Opposition in trouble

It’s clear that Barça go in to their 29th game of the season not in their best form but it would appear that Valladolid have it even worse. Though they proved to be the early season revelation in the league, they have only managed 5 points from the last 24 available and are level with Recreativo, who occupy the last relegation spot. The main problem for the Castilians is their dependency on Josep Llorente for goals. The Basque striker has scored all eight of Valladolid’s goals in their last ten games. No other player has scored since the 6th of January.

Eto’o’s challenge

If Llorente is the biggest threat to Valdés’s goal, then Samuel Eto’o will be the same for the young keeper Sergio Asenjo. Valladolid are the only side in the first division that the Cameron star has failed to score against while wearing the azulgrana shirt. Eto’o will face a defence which will arrive in Barcelona without their usual centre defence pairing of García Calvo and Iñaki Bea.

“The squad is working with desire and attitude”



Frank Rijkaard explained at his press conference that his players are working hard to return to winning ways. The manager pointed out that the team “fight hard and remain true to his philosophy”.

The Dutchman added that FC Barcelona always try to “play good football” and this Sunday will be no different: “I hope the team can make the fans happy because they deserve it”.

Difficult game

Sunday’s game against Valladolid in the Nou Camp, however, won’t be easy, admitted Rijkaard. “We have to fight because these types of games are the most difficult. Valladolid is a well organised and dangerous team”.

On the question of the number of goals conceded lately, the Dutchman said that “a short time ago our defence was working very well, but now we have the desire and attitude” to return to conceding fewer goals.

Better than Valencia

Asked about being knocked out of the cup by Valencia, the manager said that “we are upbeat despite the blow” in Mestalla. Rijkaard, however, believes that “Barça were better football-wise” than their opponents because they “had control of the game for the 90 minutes”. He added, therefore, that it shows that they “can lose a game but are capable of winning all their remaining games”.

Three injuries

Giovani, Márquez and Ronaldinho will be out for the Valladolid game due to various injures. With regard to Giovanni, Rijkaard explained that “he’s progressing well and finished his first training session on Saturday and came close to being selected”. Rijkaard said that Márquez was “close to returning to the team” and that Ronaldinho’s abductor problems in his right leg have returned but he finished training at about 99%.

   Fudbaleri Barselone odradili su u petak trening u neočekivano neprijatnoj atmosferi, nakon što im je veća grupa navijača zviždala i upućivala pogrdne poruke, prenose španski mediji.

Uskršnji praznici omogućili su većem broju navijača da poseti trening Barselone i treneru Franku Rajkardu i zvezdama tima da do znanja šta misle o njihovim igrama ove sezone.

Mediji izveštavaju da je jedna grupa navijača vikala igračima "hulje", a Rajkardu je poručeno da "uradi nešto pre nego što bude prekasno". Čule su se i parole kao "Manje novca više rada", a sve kao posledica neočekivano slabih partija "drim tima" ove sezone.

Barselona je drugi put za redom ispala u polufinalu Kupa Kralja, pošto je protekle nedelje poražena od Valensije sa 3:2.

Trening nije prekidan, a atmosfera se kasnije smirila, pa su se čuli i aplauzi. Na kraju, navijači su čestitali 28. rodjendan Brazilcu Ronaldinju.
