Milito: “We can win all our matches” 



The Barça players are not throwing in the towel. Gaby Milito believes the team is fully capable of making a comeback in the fight for the league title and is looking forward to starting this Sunday against Almería.
FC Barcelona central defender, Gaby Milito, is not losing hope of challenging for the league title despite the two recent defeats. Speaking at a press conference after training on Thursday, the Argentine international restated his belief in the team: “I admit that we haven’t done well in the last two matches but I believe we have a good team capable of winning all the matches we have left. We’re not throwing in the towel and we’ll take each match as if it were the last, starting this Sunday away to Almería”.

A very difficult opponent

Milito stressed that Almería, eighth in the table and only five points away from a UEFA Cup place, are having a splendid season: “They’re playing very well. In the match in the Camp Nou they created a lot of problems for us. They’ve got some very fast and technically gifted players and, without a doubt, it’ll be a very difficult game for us. We hope to win and show the solidity again that we had last month”.

No preferences in the Champions League

Asked about this Friday’s draw in Nyon for the quarterfinals of the Champions League, Milito revealed he had no preferred opponent: “At this stage of the competition all the teams are of a high quality and nobody knows which will be easier until you face them. We’ll make an assessment when we know which team we’re playing”.

Oleguer in, Deco out for Almería clash 



Oleguer Presas, who had an operation on his left hand a month ago, was given full medical clearance on Thursday. However, Deco will definitely not be available for Sunday’s match against Almería.
Club doctors announced on Thursday morning that Oleguer Presas has made a full recovery from the fracture in his left hand. However, Deco has been ruled out of the Almería game as a precaution against aggravating his muscle problem.

Oleguer, who trained with the group on Monday wearing protection on his left hand, was able to take a full part in training today. Club doctors then announced after the session that the defender is fit and ready for action.

Oleguer fractured the third metacarpal of his left hand during the away match against Sevilla on February 9th, but despite the injury managed to last out the full 90 minutes. He had an operation on February 13th and is now available to Frank Rijkaard.

Deco injury risk

Meanwhile, Club doctors have carried out a number of tests on Deco and decided there is still a risk of aggravating the calf problem that caused him to drop out of the squad for the Villarreal game. He will definitely miss Sunday’s match.

Deco felt a twinge in his right calf while warming up before the match and has been receiving treatment since Monday.

Thursday training



The squad trained on Thursday morning with a number of players absent due to injury. Ronaldinho was unable to train with the group due to a muscle niggle.
Training took place on Thursday morning for the 16 available players at La Masía with thoughts very much on next Sunday’s league match against Almería. Frank Rijkaard put the emphasis on circuits to improve strength, speed and stamina.

Of the group that took part in training on Wednesday, Ronaldinho was the only one absent from today’s session due to a slight muscle twinge. However, Touré Yaya was able to work out in the gym and should rejoin the rest of the group on Friday. Meanwhile, Deco, Giovani, Ezquerro and Márquez are continuing with their recovery treatment.

More circuit training

The group, with Oleguer participating fully, started off with warm-up exercises, stretching and the usual short passing exercises. This was followed by a number of circuits to improve strength, speed and stamina, some of them with the ball (in the same vein as yesterday’s session). At this point Sylvinho, who had felt unwell all morning, had to leave the session.

Training matches

The session finished up with a number of short training matches. The players divided up into three groups with the group scoring first winning the right to continue against the third team.

The teams were: Thuram, Bojan, Zambrotta and Edmílson (orange); Xavi, Gudjohnsen, Eto'o and Oleguer (green); Henry, Iniesta, Puyol and Abidal (without bibs). Milito did not take part. Valdés caused a fright when he collided heavily with Thuram but both players were able to continue without problems.
