An honest Henry



Thierry Henry appeared before the press to make it clear that he has problems lie not with Barça, but in his private life. He admitted that rarely seeing his daughter is affecting him even though he tries to put it out his mind on the field.
The French striker also wanted to clarify some of things that had been said last week. Thierry Henry was honest on Wednesday afternoon in front of the press because he does not like things to be “confused”.

Various clarifications

“I would just like to clear up some of the rubbish that has been said about me. Once again, there are people talking for me, one of my former team-mates, I don’t know what he was talking about but he does what he wants. On Sunday I didn’t leave the stadium for footballing reasons, I left because I had to take care of something like I have to every day. I think you guys keeps forgetting that my life is not all clear at the moment, seeing my daughter is one of the most important things in my life right now. If you know what it is like to have a daughter then you can imagine that. I don’t want anyone to cry for me, only that no-one speaks on for me.”

The blaugrana number 14 also explained that he has only seen his daughter five times in the last eight months and that is something that has affected him “a lot”. “It is inevitable that it affects you as the person that I am. But I always try and go out onto the field and forget about it”, said the striker.

Never satisfied with his game

The Frenchman admitted that he is not happy with his performances but he also explained that due to his character he is “never” satisfied with his game. “In my 14 years in football it has always happened to me, I am never happy,” explained the blaugrana.

Henry also asked that there be no comparisons with the ‘Arsenal Henry’ because now he is playing in a different position in a different side. “I played the same way for 8 years and now I have to adapt to a new league, a new team and finally to playing on the left,” reasoned a Thierry Henry who also wanted to make it clear that he “did not want this to be interpreted as a request for the coach to change my position. I don’t have a problem playing on the left”.

A decisive month 



There may be a fair amount of the season left to go, but the month ahead will be of major importance for FC Barcelona in three different competitions.
Four league games, the return leg of the Copa de Rey, and the Champions League quarter final. Quite a lot ahead then for FC Barcelona over the next few weeks in which they are battling ahead in no fewer than three different competitions.

In the league, Rijkaard’s side travels to Almería and the Juegos del Mediterraneo stadium and to Betis at the Ruiz de Lopera and will receive Valladolid and Michael Laudrup’s Getafe at the Camp Nou. Barça got 7 points off these four teams in the first half of the season, beating Almería (2-0) and Betis (2-0), drawing with Valladolid (1-1) and losing to Getafe (0-2). But this time they really cannot afford to drop any points as they need every one they can get to keep up the pressure on the league leaders.

One step from the final

We will also find out this month whether Barça will be on their way to the cup final. On March 20 they travel to Mestalla to take on Ronald Koeman’s Valencia, who drew 1-1 at the Camp Nou, and would even have won had it not been for Xavi’s last second equaliser.

More European football

Barcelona also have the Champions League quarter final ahead, although they will not know until Friday who they are playing. The first leg will be played on April 1 or 2 and the return on the 8th or 9th of the same month. The draw will also determine whether Barcelona will play the first or the second leg in their home stadium.

Players prepare for Almería match



The players were back in training on Wednesday evening at La Masía with the focus very much on the league visit to Almería.
Training recommenced on Wednesday after the players were given a day off on Tuesday. Preparations are now centred on Sunday’s league clash away to Almería (7 pm kick-off). There will be a further three training sessions before the match.

Absentees

Apart from the four players (Márquez, Messi, Ezquerro and Jorquera) already sidelined by injury, Touré Yaya was rested after receiving treatment for his back pain while Deco remained in the gym. Giovani (left ankle) was also absent.

Strength, speed and stamina

The 17-strong squad went through the usual warm-up routine and then Valdés and Pinto joined up with goalkeeping coach Juan Carlos Unzué. The rest of the players did some intensive circuit training focussed on building up their strength, speed and stamina. This was followed by a passing exercise in groups of three.

Training match

The session was rounded off with a nine-a-side training match on a reduced pitch. In the orange bibs Bojan, Sylvinho, Edmílson, Oleguer, Gudjohnsen, Puyol, Henry, Pinto and fitness coach Albert Roca. Without bibs Zambrotta, Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Xavi, Abidal, Milito, Iniesta, Thuram and Valdés.

Barsa u borbi sa preprodajom karata



Fudbalski klub Barselona povukao je u četvrtak 68 sezonskih karata svojih navijača koji su preprovadali mesta na stadionu za utakmicu sa Seltikom u Ligi šampiona, saopštio je španski klub. Barselona je saopštila da je pokrenula istragu protiv svojih navijača koji su prodali svoja mesta na stadionu pristalicama škotskog kluba, iako su takve transakcije zabranjene statutom španskog tima.

Posle sprovedene istrage biće odlučeno kako će biti kažnjeni "tapkaroši", a ove sezone Barselona je već imala problema sa preprodajom sezonskih karata.

Problem je otkriven kada su škotski navijači na ulazima na stadion zamoljeni da, uz sezonsku ulaznicu, pokažu i ličnu kartu ili neki drugi dokument kojim bi mogli da potvrde svoj identitet.

Barselona ja na toj utakmici, koja je odigrana 4. marta, pobedila sa 1:0 i ukupnim rezultatom 4:2 plasirala se u četrtfinale Lige šampiona.

Anriju nedostaje ćerka



Fudbaler španskog prvoligaša Barselone Tijeri Anri izjavio je da u poslednje vreme ne pruža igre koje se od njega očekuju, jer teško podnosi razdvojenost od trogodišnje ćerke Tee, koja živi u Londonu sa majkom Kler, preneli su danas engleski mediji. Francuski internacionalac razveo se prošle godine od bivše supruge i od tada mu ni u karijeri ne "cvetaju ruže".

'Boli me to što svoju ćerku ne mogu da vidjam češće. Oni koji imaju decu znaju kako se oseća otac koji je za poslednjih osam meseci svega pet puta video svoje dete", rekao je Anri na konferenciji za novinare.

Za nekadašnju zvezdu londonskog Arsenala Barselona je pre godinu dana platila 20,9 miliona evra.

The quarterfinal draw has an English flavour   



The draw for the quarterfinals of the Champions League takes place this Friday in the Swiss city of Nyon. In the hat with FC Barcelona will be no fewer than four Premier League clubs plus Roma, Fenerbahçe and Schalke 04.
The draw will be held at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon. Barça’s representatives will be led by vice-president for sporting affairs, Marc Ingla, Albert Perrín (international competitions) and director of football, Txiki Begiristain. It will be presided over by UEFA General Secretary David Taylor, and by the ambassador for the Moscow final, former goalkeeper Rinat Dasaev. The semi-finals will also be decided and there will be no seeded teams or restrictions on the possible pairings.

A full house for the Premiership

The draw will be special for two reasons. It’s the first time that four teams from the same country have reached the quarterfinal stage -Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool from the English Premier League – and it will also be the first time either.Fenerbahçe or Schalke 04 have featured in a CL quarterfinal draw. Making up the eight sides will be Roma, one of the surprise packages of the competition and featuring former Barça winger Ludovic Giuly.

Some familiar faces

Barça have met six of the possible seven opponents at least once before, the exception being Schalke 04. Rijkaard’s players came up against Chelsea and Liverpool in the Champions League last season and played Arsenal in the unforgettable final in Paris. Barça also met both Fenerbahçe and Roma in the group stages of the 2001-02 competition. The last time Barça faced Manchester United in a competitive match was in the CL quarterfinal in the 1998-99 season.
