SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Aug. 18.

In Afghanistan Aug. 17, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close-air support for coalition troops ambushed and taking small-arms and rocket-propelled grenade fire from Taliban extremists near Moqor. The A-10s conducted passes, expending cannon rounds and ending the engagement.

A-10s and French Air Force M-2000s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Asadabad. The A-10s conducted passes, expending cannon rounds, Guided Bomb Unit-12s and general-purpose 500-pound bombs on the extremists' positions, ending the engagement.

Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Musah Qal'eh. The GR-7s conducted passes, expending rockets, an enhanced Paveway II 1,000-pound bomb and a 1,000-pound freefall bomb on the enemy positions, ending the engagement.

In a separate engagement near Musah Qal'eh, an Air Force B-1 Lancer provided close-air support to coalition troops in taking small-arms and mortar fire. The B-1 expended a GBU-31 on the enemy mortar position, ending the engagement.

Royal Air Force GR-7s also provided close-air support to coalition forces near Kandahar.

Additionally, eight U.S., French and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 26 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, 13 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 44 close-air-support missions for OIF. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 160 airlift sorties, delivered 370 tons of cargo and transported 3,080 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On Aug. 16, U.S., French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 40 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.4 million pounds of fuel.

CENTAF releases airpower summaries for Aug. 20-21

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Aug. 20 and 21.

Aug. 21
In Afghanistan Aug. 20, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Asadabad. The A-10s conducted passes, expending cannon rounds and a general purpose 500-pound bomb, ending the engagement.

A-10s and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Musah Qal'eh. The A-10s conducted passes, expending cannon rounds, general-purpose 500-pound bombs and Guided Bomb Unit-12s on enemy positions ending the engagement.

Additionally, five U.S. Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 28 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Balad, Kirkuk and Mosul.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Iskandariyah.

Additionally, 15 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 44 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

On Aug. 19, an Air Force rescue and medical crew on a HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter flew one medical evacuation mission in support of OEF. Two U.S. servicemembers and one Afghan National Army patient with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of this mission.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 160 airlift sorties, delivered 550 tons of cargo and transported 2,880 passengers. This included more than 10,760 pounds of troop resupply and 8,220 pounds of humanitarian civil assistance airdropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Canada and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On Aug. 19, U.S., French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 40 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.4 million pounds of fuel.

Aug. 20
In Afghanistan Aug. 19, an Air Force MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle conducted precision strikes on groups of Taliban extremists engaging coalition forces near Kandahar.

A-10s and French Air Force M-2000s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Tarin Kowt. The A-10s conducted passes, expending cannon rounds and a general-purpose 500-pound bomb on the extremists' location, ending the engagement.

A B-1 Lancer provided close-air support for coalition troops taking small-arms and mortar fire from Taliban extremists near Khowst. The B-1 expended a GBU-31 and a GBU-38 on the mortar positions, ending the engagement.

A-10s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Asadabad. The A-10s conducted passes, expending cannon rounds, GBU-12s and general-purpose 500-pound bombs on the extremists' positions, ending the engagement.

A-10s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Bagram. An A-10 expended a GBU-12 on an enemy cave complex, destroying the target and ending the engagement.

A-10s, a B-1 and Royal Air Force GR-7s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Musah Qal'eh. The A-10s conducted passes, expending cannon rounds and a general-purpose 500-pound bomb, and the B-1 expended GBU-38s. All munitions were deployed against enemy mortar positions, destroying the targets and ending the engagement.

In a separate engagement near Musah Qal'eh, a B-1 expended GBU-31s and a GBU-38 on an enemy location while providing close-air support to coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists. The B-1 destroyed the target and ended the engagement.

In another engagement near Musah Qal'eh, A-10s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists. The A-10s conducted passes, expending cannon rounds and a GBU-12 on an extremist location, ending the engagement.

A Predator UAV also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Orgun-E.

Additionally, seven Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 29 close-air-support missions in support of OEF. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Mosul.

Additionally, 13 U.S., RAF and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 44 close-air-support missions for OIF. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

They flew 170 airlift sorties, delivered 370 tons of cargo and transported 3,500 passengers. This included more than 6,980 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Air Force A-10s and Royal Air Force GR-7s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces in the vicinity of Qalat.

Additionally, 10 Air Force and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 24 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Al Hawijah.

Air Force F-15Es and F-16 Fighting Falcons also provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Iskandariyah.

Additionally, 16 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq .

An Air Force B-1B provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-coalition forces in the vicinity of Now Zad. The aircraft expended a GBU-31 and a GBU-38 on enemy troop positions, ending the engagement.

Air Force A-10s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces in the vicinity of Asadabad. The aircraft expended cannon rounds and general-purpose 500-pound bombs against enemy troop positions, ending the engagement.

Air Force B-1Bs also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-coalition forces in the vicinity of Kandahar, and Air Force A-10s provided close air support to coalition troops near Khowst.

On Aug. 20, an Air Force rescue and medical crew on an HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter flew one medical evacuation mission in support of OEF. An Afghan national army patient with injuries requiring urgent care was evacuated as a result of this mission.

Approximately 145 airlift sorties were flown; almost 335 tons of cargo were delivered, and some 3,050 passengers were transported. Additionally, seven Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

On Aug. 26, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew two medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. Two enemy extremists with injuries sustained during a firefight required urgent care and were evacuated as a result of these missions.

In Afghanistan Aug. 25, A-10s and a B-1 provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Khowst. The A-10s conducted passes, expending cannon rounds against enemy troop positions and ending the engagement.

A-10s and a B-1 provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Oruzgan. The B-1 expended GBU-38s and the A-10s conducted passes, expending cannon rounds on enemy locations, ending the engagement.

B-1s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Musah Qal'eh. The B-1s expended GBU-31s and GBU-38s on the enemy positions, ending the engagement.

F-15Es provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Musah Qal'eh. The F-15Es conducted passes, expending cannon rounds on enemy positions, ending the engagement.

A-10s and RAF GR-7s also provided close-air support near Musah Qal'eh. RAF GR-7s also provided close-air support to coalition forces near Now Zad.

Additionally, eight Air Force and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 30 close-air-support missions in support of OEF. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 35 close-air-support missions for OIF. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Aug. 25
In Afghanistan Aug. 24, a B-1 and an MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle conducted a precision strike in the central Khod Valley of Uruzgan Province where the Taliban conducted attacks against the Afghan people and Afghan and coalition forces. The B-1 expended GBU-38s, destroying the Taliban location.

A B-1 provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists engaging Coalition forces from a cave complex near Khowst. The aircraft expended GBU-38s, destroying the cave complex and ending the engagement.

A B-1 and RAF GR-7s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Musah Qal'eh. The GR-7s expended rockets on the extremists' locations, ending the engagement.

A-10s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces in the vicinity of Jalalabad.

RAF GR-7s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Gereshk.

Additionally, nine Air Force and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 32 close-air-support missions in support of OEF. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad.

Additionally, 13 Air Force, Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summaries for Aug. 28 and 29.

Aug. 28
In Afghanistan Aug. 27, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and a B-1 Lancer provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Kandahar. The B-1 expended a Guided Bomb Unit-38, allowing coalition forces to push through an ambush and end the engagement.

A B-1 and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Musah Qal'eh. The B-1 expended a GBU-31 on a mortar position, ending the engagement.

A-10s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Asadabad. A B-1 also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Khowst.

Additionally, seven U.S. Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 27 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Balad. An F-16 expended a GBU-38 on a mortar position, ending the engagement.

F-16s also provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Ad Diwaniyah, Baghdad, Baquba, Karbala and Tall Afar.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles also provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Ad Diwaniyah.

Additionally, 13 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 35 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

On Aug. 26, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew two medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. Two enemy extremists with injuries sustained during a firefight required urgent care and were evacuated as a result of these missions.

B-1s and RAF GR-7s provided close-air support for coalition troops in contact with anti-coalition forces near Musa Qal'eh. The B-1s expended GBU-31s and a GBU-38, and the GR-7s expended an enhanced Paveway II 1,000-pound bomb on enemy positions, ending the engagement.

A-10s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Orgun-E and Qalat, and RAF GR-7s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Now Zad.

Additionally, seven Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 23 close-air-support missions in support of OEF. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, F-16s conducted a precision strike near Ad Diwaniyah. The aircraft expended a GBU-38 against an enemy position, ending the engagement.

F-16s also provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad and Salman Pak.

Additionally, 15 Air Force, Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 42 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

On Aug. 27, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew two medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. One British, one Canadian and six Afghan soldiers with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of these missions.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 42 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

On Aug. 28, an Air Force rescue and medical crew on a HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter flew one medical evacuation mission in support of OEF. Two coalition military members with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of this mission.
