SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released today's airpower summary.

Coalition aircraft flew 58 close-air-support missions April 3 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-15 Eagles and Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Habbaniyah, Fallujah and Tikrit.

In addition, 15 Air Force, Navy and Royal Australian Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 18 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Asadabad.

Six Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Golobemaster IIIs provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 190 airlift sorties, transported 2,110 passengers and delivered 340 tons of cargo including 18,000 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On April 2 Air Force tankers flew 25 sorties and off-loaded almost 1.4 million pounds of fuel.

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released today's airpower summary report.

In Iraq on April 5, U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close-air support to coalition troops who identified insurgents emplacing an improvised explosive device in the vicinity of Al Miqdadiyah. The F/A-18s successfully struck the position with cannon rounds, preventing the intended attack on coalition forces and local citizens.

United States Air Force F-15 Eagles, F-16 Fighting Falcons and U.S. Navy F/A-18s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinities of Al Habbaniyah, Al Hawijah, Tall Afar and Ramadi.

Coalition aircraft flew a total of 56 close air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to Coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

In addition, 12 U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and Royal Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance aircraft flew missions supporting operations in Iraq. U.S. Navy fighter aircraft also performed in a nontraditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 25 close-air support missions supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

A U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces in the vicinity of Deh Rawood. The B-52 dropped GBU-31 precision-guided JDAMs against enemy targets with successful effects.

United States Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and Royal Air Force GR-7 Harriers provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces in the vicinity of Gereshk and Orgun-E.

Five U.S. Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions supporting operations in Afghanistan.

United States Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster III aircraft provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. About 180 airlift sorties were flown, almost 335 tons of cargo were delivered, and close to 2,660 passengers were transported. This included 6,600 pounds of humanitarian aid airdropped in central Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and South Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On April 4 U.S. Air Force tankers flew 31 sorties and unloaded almost 2.1 million pounds of fuel.

April 10
In Iraq April 9, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons providing close-air support to coalition troops successfully strafed a group of men trying to plant an improvised explosive device near Samarra. Initial reports indicate several of the insurgents were killed.

Air Force F-16s and U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Miqdadiyah, Mosul, Ramadi and Tall Afar.

On March 29, Air Force and Royal Air Force tankers flew 31 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.4 million pounds of fuel.

In Afghanistan April 15, coalition air support for Operation Mountain Lion continued. An Air Force B-52 Stratofortress and A-10s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Jalalabad.

The A-10s successfully expended cannon rounds and rockets against enemy troops positioned on a hillside, causing them to flee the area. The A-10s also successfully struck several enemy troops out in the open with cannon rounds and rockets. The B-52 and the A-10s successfully expended general-purpose 500-pound bombs and precision guided JDAMs against a cave complex housing insurgents.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 24 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols.

Five Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 48 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-15 Eagles provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Fathah. An F-15 successfully expended a Paveway II precision-guided munition against an enemy position that had recently launched an attack on Balad Air Base.

Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Mahmudiyah.

In addition, 13 Air Force, Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Navy fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 165 airlift sorties, transported 2,800 passengers and delivered 415 tons of cargo including 20 tons of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Canada and South Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On April 14 Air Force and RAF tankers flew 35 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.4 million pounds of fuel.

In Afghanistan April 14, Air Force A-10s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Jalalabad during Operation Mountain Lion. The A-10s fired their cannons in two strafing passes against an enemy force in armed conflict with coalition and Afghan National forces, bringing the engagement to an end.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 26 close-air-support missions for Operation Mountain Lion and in other support missions for Operation Enduring Freedom. An Air Force B-52 and RAF Harrier GR7s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Kandahar.

Six Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 54 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons and Navy F/A-18s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Fathah, Al Mahmudiyah, Al Sahra and Al Taji.

In addition, 15 Air Force, Navy, RAF and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Air Force and Navy fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

CENTAF releases airpower summary

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released today's airpower summary.

Coalition aircraft flew 18 close-air-support missions April 17 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force F-15 Eagles and Royal Air Force Tornado GR4s provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hawijah, Baghdad, Baquba, Fallujah and Ramadi.

In addition, 11 Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 22 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and presence route patrols.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Khowst and Gereshk.

Seven Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 150 airlift sorties, transported 3,465 passengers and delivered 340 tons of cargo including 20,000 pounds of troop re-supply air dropped in Afghanistan. The Royal Australian Air Force also air dropped 6,000 pounds of troop re-supply in Afghanistan.

On April 16 Air Force and RAF tankers flew 34 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.6 million pounds of fuel.
