CENTAF releases airpower summary for June 20

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released the airpower summary for June 20.

In Afghanistan June 19, an Air Force B-1B Lancer and MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle conducted precision strikes against anti-coalition forces near Deh Rawood. The B-1B expended several precision-guided munitions, ending the engagement.

In three engagements, Air Force B-1Bs, A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Tarin Kowt. The aircraft expended several precision-guided munitions on enemy compounds, ending the engagements.

In two additional engagements near Oruzgan, Air Force A-10s and a B-1B provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces in the open. The B-1B expended precision-guided munitions and the A-10s conducted strafing passes expending cannon rounds, which ended the engagements.

Air Force A-10s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Khowst.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 29 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Seven Air Force and French intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 56 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Eleven Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Navy fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew one medical evacuation mission in support of OEF June 19. One U.S. military member with injuries requiring urgent care was evacuated as a result of this mission.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 140 airlift sorties, delivered 430 tons of cargo and transported 1,950 passengers. This included more than 22,000 pounds of troop resupply and humanitarian aid air-dropped in eastern and southern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On June 18, Air Force, Royal Air Force and French tankers flew 40 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.6 million pounds of fuel.

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released the airpower summary for June 21.

In Afghanistan June 20, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and a B-1B Lancer provided close-air support for coalition forces taking small-arms fire from Taliban extremists near Tarin Kowt. The B1-B expended precision-guided munitions on a compound where the extremists fled to, ending the engagement.

In a separate engagement, A-10s conducted precision strikes on Taliban extremists in a tree line near Kandahar. The A-10s expended numerous cannon rounds, ending the engagement.

A-10s, a B1-B and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Gereshk and Tarin Kowt.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 25 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Six Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 60 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Royal Air Force Tornado GR-4s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Mahmudiyah.

In addition, 12 Air Force, Navy and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Navy fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 140 airlift sorties, delivered 530 tons of cargo and transported 2,550 passengers. This included more than 34,800 pounds of troop resupply air-dropped in central Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On June 19, Air Force, Royal Air Force and French air force tankers flew 44 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.7 million pounds of fuel.

An Air Force B-1B Lancer provided close-air support to coalition forces taking small-arms fire from Taliban extremists near Tarin Kowt. The B-1B expended precision-guided munitions on the extremists' positions, ending the engagement.

In a separate engagement, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and a B-1B provided close-air support to coalition forces taking small-arms fire from Taliban extremists near Asadabad. The B-1B expended precision-guided munitions, ending the engagement.

Additionally, 15 Air Force, Navy, Royal Australian Air Force and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. A Navy fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 60 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 140 airlift sorties, delivered 380 tons of cargo and transported 3,100 passengers. This included more than 13,200 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in central Afghanistan, bringing the total amount of supplies airdropped in June to more than 550,000 pounds.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On June 20, U.S. Air Force, French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 41 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.6 million pounds of fuel.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 54 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

On June 21, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew four medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. Seven patients with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated on these missions. They included U.S. and coalition forces and a non-military member.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 160 airlift sorties, delivered 230 tons of cargo and transported 2,120 passengers. This included more than 13,960 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On June 21, U.S., French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 44 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.9 million pounds of fuel.

The aircraft expended guided bomb unit-12s and general-purpose 500-pound bombs on a compound where the extremists were held up, destroying the compound and ending the engagement.

Additionally, eight U.S. and French air force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 23 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, Royal Air Force Tornado GR-4s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Mahmudiyah.

Additionally, 15 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Navy fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 54 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

On June 24, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew three medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. Three U.S. military patients with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of these missions.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 180 airlift sorties, delivered 540 tons of cargo and transported 2,500 passengers. This included nearly 42,500 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in eastern Afghanistan. This also included more than 8,200 pounds of humanitarian aid containing food, water, teaching supplies, school supplies and soccer balls.

On June 24, U.S., French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 40 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.3 million pounds of fuel.

June 25
In Afghanistan June 24, U.S., French and Royal Air Force aircraft provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with Taliban extremists on three separate occasions, all near Kandahar.

In the first engagement, A-10s provided close-air support to coalition troops taking small arms and rocket-propelled grenade fire. The A-10s expended a general-purpose 500-pound bomb and a GBU-12, ending the engagement.

In the second engagement, French air force M-2000 Mirages provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact. The aircraft expended GBU-12s on the extremists' positions, ending the engagement.

In the third engagement, a B-1B and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support to coalition forces taking small-arms fire. The GR-7s conducted a strafing pass and expended rockets, ending the engagement.

Additionally, six U.S. Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 31 close-air-support missions in support of OEF. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hawijah and Al Mahmudiyah.

Additionally, 13 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 34 close air support missions for OIF. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

On June 23, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew two medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. Four Afghan national army and three Australian military patients with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of these missions.

C-130s and C-17s provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 150 airlift sorties, delivered 530 tons of cargo and transported 2,420 passengers. This included more than 61,600 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in central Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Canada flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On June 23, U.S., French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 40 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.5 million pounds of fuel.

June 24
In Afghanistan June 23, A-10s, an MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle, a B-1 and RAF GR-7s provided close-air support to coalition forces taking small-arms fire from Taliban extremists near Tarin Kowt. The aircraft targeted extremists in a compound, in an orchard and in the open, expending GBU-12s, general-purpose 500-pound bombs, precision-guided munitions, rockets, a Hellfire missile and cannon rounds.

In a separate engagement, A-10s and Royal Netherlands Air Force F-16s provided close-air support for coalition forces taking small arms fire and mortars from Taliban extremists near Kandahar. The A-10 aircraft expended GBU-12s on the extremists' location, ending the engagement.

A B-1 also provided close-air support to coalition forces in contact with Taliban extremists near Asadabad and Kandahar. Additionally, six Air Force ISR flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 31 close-air-support missions in support of OEF. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16s provided close-air support to coalition troops conducting raids on anti-Iraqi forces near Fallujah. The aircraft expended GBU-12s, GBU-38s and cannon rounds on the anti-Iraqi forces' vehicles and buildings, ending the engagement.


F-16s and Navy F-18C Hornets also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hawijah and Baqubah. Additionally, 13 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials announced the airpower summary for June 29.

In Afghanistan June 28, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and B-1 Lancers and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support for a coalition forces convoy taking small-arms fire from Taliban extremists near Deh Rawood. A-10s expended guided bomb unit-12s. A B-1 expended a GBU-38 on the extremists' location, ending the engagement.

A-10s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Gereshk, and a B-1 provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact near Asadabad.

Additionally, eight U.S. and French air force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 26 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, Navy F-18C Hornets provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Mahmudiyah.

Additionally, 14 Air Force, Navy, Royal Australian Air Force and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Navy fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 56 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

On June 27, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew two medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. Four local national patients with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of these missions.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 150 airlift sorties, delivered 350 tons of cargo and transported 1,680 passengers. This included more than 18,000 pounds of humanitarian civil assistance in central Afghanistan, which contained food, water, school and teaching supplies.

Coalition C-130 crews from Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On June 27, U.S., French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 41 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.6 million pounds of fuel.

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released the airpower summary for June 30.

In Afghanistan June 29, Air Force B-1B Lancers provided close-air support for coalition forces taking small-arms and mortar fire from Taliban extremists near Tarin Kowt. The aircraft expended guided bomb unit-31s and GBU-38s on the extremists' locations, ending the engagement.

In a separate engagement, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and a B-1 and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support for coalition forces taking small-arms fire from Taliban extremists near Deh Rawood. The A-10s conducted several strafing passes, expending cannon rounds and ending the engagement.

Royal Air Force GR-7s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Tarin Kowt.

Additionally, seven U.S. and French Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.
In total, coalition aircraft flew 21 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to coalition troops taking small-arms fire from anti-Iraqi forces near Al Habbaniyah. The F-16s expended GBU-12s and GBU-38s on the anti-Iraqi forces' locations, ending the engagement.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles and an MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baquba.

Air Force F-16s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Iskandariyah and Baghdad International Airport.

Additionally, 12 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq .

In total, coalition aircraft flew 44 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

On June 28, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew three medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. Three U.S. military members with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of these missions.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 150 airlift sorties, delivered 230 tons of cargo and transported 2,850 passengers. This included nearly 60,000 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On June 28, U.S., French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 43 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.8 million pounds of fuel.

In a separate engagement, A-10s, French Air Force Mirage M-2000s and Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces near Gereshk. A B-1 also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with enemy forces in the vicinity of Khowst.

Additionally, seven U.S., French and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 21 close-air-support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 40 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

On June 30, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew four medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. Four Afghan National Army and two local national patients with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of these missions.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew 160 airlift sorties, delivered 480 tons of cargo and transported 2,400 passengers. This included more than 10,500 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in northeastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Canada and Japan flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On June 30, U.S., French and Royal Air Force tankers flew 39 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.3 million pounds of fuel.

July 1

In Iraq June 30, F-16s provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hawijah and Al Iskandariyah. F-15s also provided close-air support to coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Hawijah.

Additionally, 15 Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. In total, coalition aircraft flew 44 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.
