Totti Doping Case Dropped




The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) have confirmed that they will not be taking any action against Francesco Totti, after he was late for a routine drugs test.

The Roma captain reportedly did not turn up on time for the test after Roma’s 1-0 home loss to Torino on May 13, 2007.   

Under FIGC rules, the anti-doping authorities were required to investigate the matter, and if found guilty of wrongdoing, Totti could have faced a ban.   

However the investigation has now been scrapped after it was revealed that Er Pupone was attending the birth of his second child.   

Totti has hit the headlines in the past few days after failing to make the 30-man shortlist for the 2007 FIFA World Player of the Year award.   

Last year’s top-scorer in Serie A and European Golden Boot winner has made an imperious start to the current campaign, scoring six goals in the league, and one in Europe.   

Totti has this weekend off, while Italy play their crucial Euro 2008 qualifier against Georgia tonight. The 31-year-old confirmed his retirement from international football in the summer.

Mancini Agent Demands New Contract



The agent of Roma winger-forward Amantino Mancini has made it abundantly clear that the player will have to be offered a new contract.

Roma and Mancini have been locked in contract talks, and with a resolution not appearing close, the player's agent has decided to go public.

While taking a 'softly-softly' approach, Gilmar Volez made it clear that only a new offer would do.

"Mancini has a contract until 2009 and must give his all for the club," began Veloz.

"I have already had a conversation with Rosella Sensi and that was enough for me to understand that the club want to keep hold of my client.

"She has also had words with the player himself where she confirmed that intention to him as well."

Of course, the intention has not been translated into an actual agreement, something that has even puzzled some of the Giallorossi faithful.

However, Volez decided to keep it gentle: "I have nothing to say against Roma. There are no problems at the moment, and the club directors have presented themselves very well in these months."

Aquilani: Winning The Scudetto Is A Dream 

Alberto Aquilani has revealed that he feels so lucky to be playing for Roma and that it is his dream to win the Scudetto.


The 23-year-old, who is regarded as an Azzurri star of the future, was born in Rome and has supported the Giallorossi ever since he was a young boy. 

He graduated through the Roma ranks, alongside the likes of Daniele De Rossi and Gianluca Curci, before making his debut for the club in 2003. 

He has since established himself as a regular in the starting line-up and has also won three caps for the Italian national team. 

“To put it simply I am a boy of 23-years-old who is living the dream,” said Aquilani. 

“To play for Roma, the team that I have always supported and to participate in Serie A at a good level is special. My ultimate dream however is to win the Scudetto.” 

On February 26, 2006, Aquilani scored the second goal in the triumph over Lazio in the Rome derby, a victory that broke the record for most consecutive wins in Serie A. 

“That day was so emotional,” admitted the midfielder. “To score in the derby as well as break the record was just amazing.”
