Vennegoor Of Hesselink Set To Miss Celtic-Milan Showdown

Celtic manager Gordon Stratchan has confirmed that Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink's (pictured) hamstring troubles are extremely likely to keep the forward out of Wednesday's crunch tie with AC Milan in the Champions League.

The Bhoys ran out 3-0 winners over Dundee United on Saturday, Scott McDonald grabbing a hat-trick, but the occasion was soured by an injury to the imposing Dutchman.

Strachan fretted, "Jan suffered a hamstring injury after taking a shot and it doesn't look good. I think it's an outside chance for him.

"We will just get on with it. We have lost a lot of players over the last few weeks and we just get over it."

With Shunsuke Nakamura also considered doubtful for the Celtic Park tie, the chances of the Glasgow side repeating last season's heroics appear to be lessening.

Nonetheless, the Celtic squad is set to draw inspiration from their previous encounters with the rossoneri, holding the European champions-elect to 180 minutes of goalless football before Kaka sealed a win in injury time.

Vennegoor of Hesselink, 28, arrived at Celtic Park in the summer of 2006, having spent the previous five seasons with PSV Eindhoven.

The former Twente Enschede man was a member of the Dutch World Cup 2006 squad.

MILAN - Yesterday Alberto Gilardino, who came in at the start of the second half against Catania, player his 100th official game with the Rossoneri. Hundred official games with 35 goals scored. Alberto debuted with our shirt on the 28th of August 2005: Serie A, Ascoli-Milan 1-1. Many contragulations to the Gila for what he has done in his first years with the Rossoneri, considering the latest statistics.
