Flamini Rejects Juve For Milan

It has been looking increasingly likely for quite sometime now that Flamini will be leaving the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season. 

The 24-year-old, who is regarded as one of Europe’s best defensive midfielders, has not signed an extension to his Arsenal contract that runs out in June, and his manager Arsene Wenger has now given up hope of keeping him. 

Juventus and Milan are the two main teams tussling for his signature, and it had been the former who were believed to be in pole position. 

However the Gazzetta is this morning reporting that Milan have beaten Juve to the finishing line.

It seems the main factor in the player’s decision may have been the salary offer. While Milan’s Adriano Galliani offered €4m-a-year for the player, Juventus transfer chief Alessio Secco was only prepared to give him €3m. 

Flamini will sign a five-year contract at San Siro, and could be the first building block of a new, exciting Milan team. 

Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli confirmed yesterday that the club had lost out in the race to sign Flamini. 

When asked if the Frenchman would be arriving in Turin, Gigli’s one-word reply was “no”.

Man City And Spurs Back In As Milan Fail To Land Ronaldinho
AC Milan's unwillingness to meet Barcelona's asking price for Ronaldinho could open the door for a move for the player to the Premier League...

AC Milan want Ronaldinho and Ronaldinho is said to want AC Milan, but recent reports indicate that it may not be so simple.

While Milan most likely do have the financial clout to pay a hefty transfer fee and wage for the Brazilian, it has thus far been indicated that they are averse to doing so.

Indeed, vice-president Adriano Galliani has publicly stated that the two clubs are poles apart in their attempt to find common ground over the transfer, and that an agreement is some way off.

Barcelona, no matter what, will not be kow-towed into accepting an offer significantly lower than their valuation, and the fact that there is competition for the player's signature - i.e. a seller's market - means that Milan may not be the player's final destination.

London Calling... Or Manchester

Such is the financial clout of the Premier League clubs that relatively modest outfits such as Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have expressed an interest in the forward should Milan fail to land him.

City, bankrolled by Thai millionnaire Thaksin Shinawatra, would love to have a player of Dinho's status, and sources close to the player have indicated that he will not rule out the idea of a move to Eastlands. Playing for such a side would undoubtedly see him as "the star" in a way that he has not been at Barcelona for some time, and he would become a figurehead of the squad very quickly.

First team coach Sven Goran Eriksson is eager to land players of such stature, as he told the press today:

"I haven't spoken to Dr Thaksin (Shinawatra) yet, but hopefully I will do during the weekend," he said. "I want to speak to him about the future of the club as it is important.

"In general, if we are going to sign players for next season they must be world-class players.

"We have a very good team, but if we want to go one step further we have to bring in top-class players."

The same applies at Spurs to a slightly lesser extent, although the London side's interest is not said to be as long-standing in any case. Nonetheless, the White Hart Lane side are not short of money, and can't be ruled out as a potential option either.

Galliani: We Won’t Sign Ronaldinho At Current Price
Milan Vice President Adiano Galliani is still confident of signing Ronaldinho, and his club team-mate Gianluca Zambrotta, however he says that Barcelona will have to lower their asking price for the Brazilian.

The Rossoneri remain strong favourites to snap up the former European and World Footballer of the Year, however in recent days the move has hit a snag over the transfer fee.

"Ronaldinho wants to come to Milan, absolutely," stated Galliani.

"At the moment there is no agreement with Barcelona, but the market will close on August 31, so there is still time.

"If the price remains what Barca calls today, the Brazilian will not go to Milan.

“We hope that we can lower their demands but, I repeat, players usually arrive in July, there is plenty of time and there is certainly no need to close things today.”

Galliani also confirmed once again that Ronaldinho’s team-mate Gianluca Zambrotta is also a summer transfer target.

The 31-year-old, who kept Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo very quiet the other night in the Champions League, is widely expected to move to San Siro.

"There is no purchase block of Zambrotta-Ronaldinho,” Galliani noted.

“It's known that they are the two players who concern us, but the two names are not linked. They could both arrive, or neither one of the two."
