 On 11 November 1942, 431 Bomber Squadron formed at Burn, England. They were in England for the duration of the war and moved to RCAF Station Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, after V-E Day, disbanding there on 5 September 1945. 431 Fighter Squadron formed at RCAF Station Bagotville on 18 January 1954 in order to display the Sabre to the public at airshows. They were disbanded on 1 October 1954.
 They were re-activated on 1 April 1978 as 431 Air Demonstration Squadron, more commonly known as the Snowbirds, flying the CT-114 Tutor. On 15 October 1999, 431 Sqn was presented their Squadron Colours, for 25 years of service.

" Kleeblatt " Austria

  The aerobatics team of the Austrian Air Forces is called Kleeblatt (Cloverleaf) and is established from the crew of the 2nd squadron of 1st Flight Regiment based in Langenlebarn (near Vienna). The team is created in 1975 for the 70th anniversary of the Austrian Air Forces. Except for the demonstrations in the country, the team participates in some international airshows which bring it popularity in Europe. In 1987 the team is disbanded and is re-established only in 1997 in the same base. Since then Kleeblatt has visited Switzerland, Slovakia, Czech Republic and France.Unfortunately in December 2001 the team is disbanded till the second instruction. The reason is still unannounced.
  The team consist of five pilots who fly on four Agusta Bell-206 Jet Ranger helicopters (which are made under licence in Agusta, Italy). The ground staff consists of 11 people who are responsible for the helicopters' good working order. Everyone of them is from the crew of the 2nd squadron of 1st Flight Regiment based in Langenlebarn.
  The demonstration is always performed under the music accompaniment on altitude between 10 and 150 meters and lasts 15 minutes. The distance between helicopters is about 5 meters (this means the distance between the propellers of the helicopters).
  Although in the past the Austrian Air Forces have had some aerobatic teams which have flown on airplanes (the most popular from them is Silver Bros which flew on Saab J105 aircrafts), until a little while ago Austria is presented only by the helicopter squad of Kleeblatt.

"Red Baron Stearman Squadron" USA


Bob Johnston is a member of the Red Baron Stearman Squadron, an airplane group that travels across the country from mid-May to mid-November giving rides to customers and performing in air shows. The squadron visits about 200 cities, giving about 28 air shows to audiences across the nation. Most recently, the group, which is based in Marshall, Minn., thrilled spectators at the University Park Airport.The group flies planes designed by Lloyd Stearman and manufactured by Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas - the Stearman model A-75 airplane. The planes were built between 1942 and 1944, one rolling off the production line on December 8, 1942. That date holds special meaning to the squadron pilots, Johnston said.They perform precision aerobatics in their planes, meaning that when they start a maneuver, they know the outcome, Johnston said. Many people call the group "stunt" pilots, which is a misnomer, he said, because in stunts, the outcome is not known.Johnston is in his first season with the Red Baron Stearman Squadron after flying corporate jets and planes for 43 years. Flying in the squadron is his wife's retirement gift to him, Johnston said. "It is a rush for me, even after 43 years, to know that I am flying a piece of history," he said.
