In the blue corner today we have the Samsung Galaxy ATIV S, while in the red corner we have the HTC Windows Phone 8X -- a smartphone that the guys from Redmond seem to be pushing really hard these days...

Samsung ATIV S Review

The ATIV S is the latest Windows Phone 8 device from Samsung, complete with a brilliant 8MP camera, 1080p video recording and a classic design. But can any handset with a Microsoft OS really challenge the Android crew? Well, with its stunning Live Tile user interface and impressive 4.8" SuperAMOLED display, it looks like the ATIV S could be a serious challenger. Samsung ATIV S vs Samsung Galaxy S III

Samsung's ATIV S might be late to the party, but the festivities are still in full swing in the Windows Phone 8 world as we close out the year. Since receiving our review unit, we've given you an unboxing and hardware tour, compared it to the Lumia 920, given it the full review treatment, and talked it to pieces on today's episode of the Pocketnow Weekly. Now it's time to put it up against its Android-powered predecessor, its spiritual sibling, the Galaxy S III.
Normally our comparison videos focus on specs, app launch times, benchmarks, and so forth. With a video like this, though, that's impractical. The platform differences between Android and Windows Phone are extreme, and if you're a prospective buyer, you've already given thought to which ecosystem you're committing to.

That said, there are significant hardware similarities between these smartphones, so many that the ATIV S's unofficial nickname around these parts is "the Galaxy S III with Windows Phone" (creative, I know). So, for those buyers still vaccillating between Microsoft and Google, or those just curious about how different or alike these devices actually are, click the video above to get a little nerdy with us. Samsung ATIV S Hands On Review

Samsung was one of the first to join the Windows Phone parade with the Focus, and was quick to follow up with devices like the Focus S. It's been unusually conservative with Windows Phone 8, however: the ATIV S ($100 on contract through Bell Canada) is the last of the big three flagships to arrive in 2012, following weeks after the HTC Windows Phone 8X and Nokia Lumia 920 went on sale.
