Lockheed rolls out combat capable F-22 fighter Lockheed Martin (Bethesda, Md.) rolled out on Oct. 16 the first combat capable F-22 stealth fighter destined for basing and operations in the Pacific Rim. Raptor 4087 completed its final assembly with Air Force leaders from Alaska and Lockheed Martin employees on hand to mark the event outside the production line in Marietta, Ga.
"This F-22 rollout marks another significant milestone for the F-22 program. The Raptor industrial team is proud to continue to produce this revolutionary 5TH Generation stealth fighter for the United States Air Force," says Nick Cessario, vice president and F-22 program deputy general manager. "I know we will all sleep better knowing the F-22 will be flying for at least the next four decades, and is ready to defend our nation if the call comes to send in the Raptors."
The F-22 Raptor stealth fighter is a composites-heavy jet built by Lockheed Martin in partnership with Boeing and Pratt & Whitney. Parts and subsystems are provided by approximately 1,000 suppliers in 42 states. F-22 production is done at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics facilities in Palmdale, Calif.; Meridian, Miss.; Marietta, Ga.; and Fort Worth, Texas, as well as at Boeing’s plant in Seattle, Wash. Final assembly and initial flight testing of the Raptor occurs at the Marietta plant facilities.
"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: Only love can do that."
