The Easy Way to FM Radio Without the Headphones

Thanks to XDA Developers for finding this out on an HTC Touch Pro, you can now easily listen to FM Radio on your device, if this supports it, even if you don't have your headphones handy.

Headphones are only necessary for FM Radio because they act as an antenna which intercepts the waves but if you have a strong signal, just plug in the extUSB to 3.5 jack adaptor and (gently) slide in the stylus in the headphone jack. Your device should be tricked and it should act as if it had headphones, thus allowing you to run and listen to FM Radio. Tip is working even better with HTC Touch HD, which has a dedicated headphone out.

Note 1: If you don't hear any sound, don't forget to switch the output to speakers!

Note 2: If your device can't be easily tricked into seeing headphones attached, play a bit and experiment some other positions of your stylus in the adaptor or port.

Kako umesto ikonice start menija staviti HTC logo?

1. Install Start Menu Certificates
2. Copy shellres.192.dll.0409.mui to your Windows folder.

*** The attached dll is for english version. If you have french for example you have to rename the dll to : shellres.192.dll.040C.mui. If you have other language and don't know your code just do a search in windows folder for some .mui files and see their code.
- code for french : 040C

Be sure to backup if you need to replace the .mui file.

How to Give S2U2 a Splash of Hero

S2U2 is considered the king of screen locking apps for Windows Mobile. One of the perks of using S2U2 over similar apps is that you can customize its graphics. If you haven’t tried a theme other than the one provided by default, now is a good time.

The HTC Hero’s Sense UI has been extremely popular lately, so it’s not surprising to see a new S2U2 theme modeled after it. Although the theme doesn’t change S2U2’s mechanics to unlock in the same manner as the Hero’s screen lock function, it still looks great and definitely resembles Sense UI.

Here’s how to get the S2U2 Hero theme on your device:

- If you haven’t already, update to the latest version of S2U2.
- Download the appropriate PointSense S2U2 files (register for free).
- Backup your “gfx” folder located in “Device\Program Files\S2U2” directory.
- Connect your device via ActiveSync or WM Device Center.
- Unzip previously mentioned PointSense S2U2 files.
- Drag the 12 files located in that folder to “Device\Program Files\S2U2\gfx,” overwrite existing files.
- Soft reset.
- Enjoy!

Note: this is a theme for S2U2. Despite the name of the theme files, you don't need PointUI.

Update: new version of S2U2 Hero theme with more choices located in new thread (thanks, looby!).

Looking for more S2U2 themes? Check out the sleek TouchFLO 3D theme.

More Hero Sense UI Themes: Mobile Shell 3 and WAD2 Flavors

We have already seen the HTC Hero’s Sense UI recreated as themes for ThrottleLauncher, PointUI and S2U2. There was also video of an actual Sense UI port running on the HTC Vogue. If you don’t have a Vogue, you probably shouldn’t get your hopes up about the port coming to your device any time soon. With that in mind, we didn’t want to leave SPB Mobile Shell 3 and WisBar Advance Desktop 2 users out of the loop. So, in an effort to invite you to the Hero theme party, here are two more Sense UI themes for MS3 and WAD2.

Below, you will find images of “Sence La Révolution” and “ActuSense.” The former is for MS3, while the latter is for WAD2. Although both themes are limited to what their respective today plug-ins allow, the integrated Sense UI-like features succeed in giving the user that Hero feeling. If you took French in school, now is a good time to brush up on your reading comprehension skills. You guessed correctly, these gems were actually hiding on a French site. Hit the break to see video of these themes in action and to find out where to get them.

Getting Rid of Busy Tone Going Through Speakers

On many WM 6.1 devices, the busy tone is blasted out through the speakers. That's one in a series of slightly bizarre Windows Mobile details. Why, oh mighty giant Microsoft, would you want a phone to behave so mischievously? It could hurt your ear since it's right next to the speakers, it's annoying, it's illogical, it's meaningless. I'd say the verdict is that the quirk needs to be removed, for the good of all mankind! This is how to do it.

    * Enter HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ControlPanel/Sounds/BusyTone with your favorite registry editor
    * To kill the busy tone altogether, remove the text (default is "apr") from the Script entry, but do not delete the entire entry.
    * You can also change the Sound value to a less loud and intrusive wav-file. It must be located in the Windows-folder.
    * Change the Script value to ap for the tone to only play once.

TouchFLO 3D 2.1/2.5: Disable Unnecessary 01:02 Clock Flip

TouchFLO 3D 2.1 and Sense 2.5 have a lot of eye candy to go along with the tremendous functionality found within both versions of HTC’s UI. The combination of beauty and execution has undoubtedly been successful. Still, at one point or another, many users have realized that a portion of the gloss is unnecessary. An example of this is evident in the redundant clock flipping animation that occurs when returning to your home screen. Every time you unlock your device, return from the Start menu or do anything that brings you back to your main screen, your clock will cycle through an hour and two minutes (via flip animation) until it displays the correct time.

After the novelty factor wears off, some may prefer to disable this animation. Thankfully, a user on XDA-developers has given us an option by creating a replacement manila file that will disable this feature with relative ease. While it paralyzes the excess shuffling of time, the real-time flip animation will remain intact. If you’re running HTC Sense 2.5, it should be noted that this fix will not conflict with your gorgeous home screen weather animations.

Here’s how to disable it:

-   Download the modified manila file for 2.1 or 2.5
-   Disable TF3D /Sense in Today settings
-   Backup the existing manila file you’re about to replace (same file name as modified file). To do this: navigate to the Windows directory, locate the file and copy it to a different location on your device/storage in case you want to revert back
-   Connect to your device with ActiveSync, unzip and transfer the modified file to your device/storage
-   Using Total Commander, Resco Explorer or another utility that can modify system files, overwrite the original manila file with the modified one
-   Re-enable TF3D in Today settings (may need a soft reset)

Now, when you return Home, the clock will only flip when the time actually changes!

Notes: the feature noted above is found on newer versions of TF3D/Sense. Only proceed with the fix if the home screen flip is present and you want to disable it. Remember to backup the file you’re about to overwrite. That way, you can always revert back if you don’t like the changes.

Get Four of Five Rows of Icons in (not only) HD2's WM6.5 Start Menu

The default Windows Mobile 6.5 coming on the HTC HD2 sports a three row display type of icons in the Start Menu. There's a small hack that replaces the cpr files in your Device which will edit the display of the Start Menu to four or five columns.

The hack not only adds one or two more columns, but it also resizes the application icons and recenters the text labels below them. It can be used on the HTC HD2 but the hack can be applied to other devices running Windows Mobile 6.5 and having a WVGA display (but if you're on another device or a custom ROM, check the registry for the existence of HKLM\Security\Shell\StartMenu\CustomGridForm = "StartMenuCust").

See attached screenshots and go for the one of you liking. Download and install the chosen one, soft reset your device and you'll have the new Start Menu grid. If you want to revert, uninstalling should get back your stock Start Menu as the original files are ROM files and thus always restored.
