New Hack-No Today screen lines!



This new registry edit comes much too late, now that everyone is moving away from the today screen to custom interfaces, but for those that prefer the simple and information-centric interface, this new registry setting, discovered in the Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM, will come as if from heaven.

For years the bane of a beautiful Today screen theme was the horizontal lines separating each item. It seems Microsoft has been hiding the setting to remove these annoying lines for some time. The registry edit to remove them are:

In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today add a new DWord key with name “HidePluginSeparators” and value 1

Soft-reset after the edit.

This registry edit does not work in all ROM’s and may be a new feature only added in the latest Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM’s. Try it out and let us know the results of your efforts.

Another Free Way to Use Sound Profiles



XDA Developers’ ProfileTimer is yet another free solution for using profiles on your Windows Mobile Professional device.

The interface has several icons (from left to right) for normal, ringer off, vibrate and soft, a daily listing for your profiles and information about current date, time left for next profile activation and battery information.

The biggest downside to this application I’ve found is that you can’t really customize the behavior of profiles from within the application, but by directly editing the xml file this relies upon (by opening and editing in for instance on your PC’s Notepad). To make it easier, here’s an example:

It’s not that difficult, you have to specify activation and deactivation time for that certain day, and behaviors for vibrate, ringer and volume. Save your xml and the new settings are now used.

Another downside to this application is that there is no installer. You need to unzip the contents of the archive to a folder on your device (can be Storage Card too) and run it from there, but once you get it customized and running the way you want it, it does the job.

Set Custom Background for all TouchFLO 3D Tabs of the HTC Touch HD

XDA Developers have finally managed to crack the custom background on all tabs of the TouchFLO 3D on HTC Touch HD.

Once you download and install the cab to Device, you will be prompted for a restart after which the custom wallpaper image you choose to set as background will be valid for all tabs of TouchFLO 3D.

In case you want to revert to the previous state, just uninstall the cab from Remove Programs inside Settings. For those of you who still want to see the default TouchFLO 3D wallpaper while having this tweak installed (installing will set a black wallpaper), you can grab it here.

HTC Diamond battey life fix

It seems that one of the major issues is that the battery amount is polled so often that it actually drains the battery a LOT.
There is a registry edit you can perform that is confirmed working on CDMA(being tested on GSM) phones, and battery life is really great now!

What you have to do:

   1. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Battery in a Registry Editor.
   2. Change the value of the “PollInterval” to HEX 4E20(or use decimal 20000)
   3. Soft reset your device

Sync: Set Up Your Windows Mobile Phone

To set up Google Sync on your Windows Mobile device, please follow the steps below.

Important Note: Make sure that you have backed up any Contacts and Calendars from your phone to your computer before proceeding.

Getting Started

1. Open the Active Sync application on your device's home screen.
2. Click the link Set up your device to sync with it.
3. Enter m.google.com as the server address.
4. Ensure that the SSL option is checked.



Sign In to Google Account

5. Click Next.
6. Enter your full Google Account email address as the User name.
7. Enter your Google Account password as the Password.
8. Leave the Domain field empty. If your device requires you to enter a domain name, enter google.
9. Click Next.
10. Check only Contacts and Calendar.
11. Click Finish.



12. Press the Sync softkey on the left to synchronize



You've now set up Google Sync for your Windows Mobile device.

Tip: If your business, school, or organization uses Google Apps, your administrator will first need to enable ActiveSync before you can take advantage of this feature.

How to Map Windows Vista's Public Folder to Your Device

Windows Vista’s Public Folder can be easily mapped to your Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 Device in order to access files both ways to and from your PC via Wi-Fi on your Home or Office network. This way you can access and edit documents, pictures, music and complete file operations between your devices. Read on to learn how to enable seamless communication between your PC and your Device.

I found the Default Windows Vista structure more than enough for sharing Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures and Videos, but you can feel free to share different folders on your PC too.

In order to achieve this, you need to follow a few steps, both on your Device and PC.

A. Steps on Windows Vista PC:
1. go to Network and Sharing Center (right click on Network and select Properties to access it)
2. enable File Sharing
3. enable Public Folder Sharing
Note: Since I’m on a secure Home Network, I’ve disabled Password Protected Sharing

B. Steps on Device:
1. install HTC Network Plugin (link to the latest version 30468 on XDA Developers)
2. reset your device in order to show the Control Panel Applet after reboot
3. go to Settings, Connections, Network Plugin and Enable Network Folder
4. reset in order to apply changes
5. enable Wi-Fi
6. go to Settings, Connections, Network Plugin and tap new
7. tap Browse to look for devices and folders (or enter LAN path if you know it)
8. tap and hold to select Map Drive
9. go to File Explorer, check Network folder on root.

Here are some possible usage scenarios:
You can open, edit and save Documents on the Network Drive
You can access Pictures on the Network Drive
You can listen to Music from the Network Drive
You can watch Videos from the Network Drive
You can transfer files to and from the Network Drive

Looking Through the Glass



XDA Developers members Blessed HD, and Giangishanghai, have made it possible for you to see more of that next message that hit’s your inbox, with a .Cab file that makes the envelope in the mail tab on TF3D transparent. Nice.

Pick between a thin or a thick glass envelope, whichever you think looks best.

Remember before installing them go to Start - Settings - Today - Items, turn off TF3D, install the cab, and then turn TF3D back on. Easy as pie, and it looks pretty slick as well.

So our ever busy friends over at XDA Developers have come up with more TouchFlo 3D goodness. This one is from showaco and it’s an addition that you should love. When you go to the Programs tab, why just be limited to your favorites when you can access them all? Hmmm, new version of the FuzeBerry?

Remove Your On-screen Soft Keys

nueNoBar is a tiny free software that will remove your on-screen soft keys thus offering more screen real estate while on the Today Screen. This is particularly useful when you have many plugins enabled and you'd wish for just a little more space right there. The on-screen soft keys are removed but your hardware soft keys (if your device has any) will still be functional, as before.

nueNoBar has been completely rewritten and reached version 2, which would work with the newer Operating System builds from Microsoft. It is now fully compatible with Windows Mobile 5, 6 and 6.1, but it will not work on environments with TouchFLO 2D, 3D or 3D2 as these handle their softkeys on their own.

Grant Your Touchscreen More Sensitivity

You might not get capacitive results with this tweak, but it's close. The tweak comes from XDA Developers and so far it has been proved to work on multiple devices.

You need to download one of the cabs and run it on your device (I suggest you go for the enhanced one which offers higher sensitivity). Advanced users can edit their registry settings without the need of installing aditional cabs, to match the ones suggested. There's no voodoo in it, either installing the cab or editing the registry will have the outcome of modifying two registry entries responsible for the screen sensitivity on your device (one system wide base setting and one HTC related) and altering their default values via replacing them with new ones.

Make sure you soft reset after applying this tweak!
Reverting to default can be done either by uninstalling the cab or by realigning the screen from the Settings. Make sure you have a backup handy just in case!
