Kathryn Morris (born January 28, 1969) is an American actress, perhaps best known for her lead role in the CBS series Cold Case.

Career

Morris' first role was a minor one in the 1991 tele-movie Long Road Home. Several other small parts followed, including a bit part as a psychiatric patient in the Oscar-winning As Good as It Gets. Her breakthrough role came as Lt. Annalisa "Stinger" Lindstrom in the television series Pensacola: Wings of Gold in 1997. She played it for two seasons. Morris continued to work in films (notably ones directed by Rod Lurie) and had a brief stint on the Xena series in 1999.

After seeing her in the film The Contender, which Dreamworks distributed, Steven Spielberg cast her in two successive films, but her scenes as a rock star in A.I.: Artificial Intelligence which required her to take singing and guitar lessons were cut by the director while the next production, Minority Report, was filming. In the latter, she portrayed the tormented wife of Tom Cruise's character.[1][2]

In 2003, Morris won the lead role of detective Lilly Rush in the CBS dramatic series Cold Case in which she not only starred in, but plays a passionately concerned but relationship-shy detective assigned to solving murders that frequently are decades old. The actress also appeared in the 2004 films Mindhunters and Paycheck and more recently as the journalist wife of Josh Hartnett in Lurie's drama Resurrecting the Champ.

Personal life

Most sources report Morris was born in Cincinnati, Ohio[2] (though CBS News identifies her birthplace as Dallas[3]). She was raised in the Church of Christ in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, and toured the country in the family's singing group, Morris Code, along with her 6 other siblings. Some people call her Kathy.[4] She attended two colleges in the Philadelphia area, including Temple University. Her first appearance in front of a film camera was for a feature film called "Philly Flash". She played the leading role in the movie until lack of funding caused an indefinite production delay. With her future in question, Kathryn (who went by Kathy at the time) decided to "go for it" and hopped on a Greyhound bus for LA. Soon after she landed a part in a TV movie with Mark Harmon and the rest is history. Eventually, "Philly Flash" was completed, but with Hannah Dalton  in Kathys's original role. [2]

She lives in Los Angeles, California.[2] In 2003, she was briefly engaged to Randy Hamilton, a financial advisor. She is currently dating David Barrett, a director and producer who has worked on Cold Case.
