HTC Touch Pro gets handled, keyboard better than X1's?



The question on quite literally every WinMo fanatic's mind as we go into the second half of the year here is, "Touch Pro or X1?" It's not an easy question to answer, and anyone hoping to sink some cash on either one of these models in a few months is going to want to do so with a crap-ton of research and anecdotal information under their belts lest the buyer's remorse set in particularly quickly. MobileBurn scored an early look at the Touch Pro -- which won't be available at retail for a month or three yet -- and came away impressed with the all-important keyboard, saying that it was "much more" usable than the QWERTY found on Sony Ericsson's rival superphone. Closed, it's said to be virtually indistingushable from the Touch Diamond (which we'd say is a good thing) other than being a bit thicker to accomodate they keyboard and picking up a matte-finish rear cover. Unfortunately, HTC refused to show off the Touch Pro's interface -- apparently on account of some new tricks up TouchFLO 3D's sleeve that haven't already made their way into the Touch Diamond -- but they did share that the new model will handle landscape mode with particular aplomb. So this one might have the X1 beat in the keyboard department, but the X1's WVGA display takes the crown for sheer pixel count. Decisions!

Teško je definisati u koju kategoriju uređaja HTC X7510 Advantage spada. Definitivno je to da se radi o pametnom telefonu jer ga pokreće Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operativni sistem, a preko njega se mogu obavljati i glasovni pozivi. S druge strane, činjenica da se pozivanje vrši preko ugrađenog mikrofona, govori nam da uređaj nije dizajniran primarno za obavljanje telefonskih razgovora. Šta je onda HTC X7510 Advantage? Radi se o uređaju za manipulisanje podacima i multimedijom. Advantage predstavlja kombinaciju pametnog telefona, laptopa i media plejera.

Obzirom da se u uređaju nalazi dosta hardvera to se odrazilo na njegovu težinu, tako da HTC X7510 Advantage teži čitavih 375 grama. Veličina iznosi 134mm x 98mm x 20.5mm, što znači da može da stane u džep, ali jedva. Ipak, prenosivost nije ono što je glavna karakteristika ovog pametnog telefona. U poređenju sa laptop računarima, X7510 može da radi satima bez punjenja baterija (300 sati u standby modu i 5-6 sati razgovora).

HTC X7510 Advantage poseduje ekran veličine 5 inča koji pruža odličan prikaz video materijala, ali i sjajnu sliku pri veb pretraživanju. Ekran je osetljiv na dodir, tako da je jedinstven osećaj pri skrolovanju ili duplom pritiskanju prisutan.

Kada je konekcija u pitanju, Advantage poseduje prilično brze Wi-Fi i HDSPA 3G (850/1900/2100MHz) mreže. Ukoliko ne postoje uslovi za brzu vezu moraćete da se zadovoljite sa GSM/EDGE mrežom koja je taman dovoljna da zadovolji potrebe običnog korisnika.

Naravno, svrha ovog uređaja nije samo brzo i kvalitetno daunloadovanje veb stranica. velike mogućnosti imate i sa kreiranjem Word, Excel i OneNote dokumenata, kao i pregled kvalitetnih PowerPoint prezentacija. Naravno, za to će vam biti potrebna i kvalitetna QWERTY tastatura. E to je ono gde HTC Advantage stvarno može da ponudi dosta.



Uz ovaj uređaj dolazi kvalitetna tastatura koja se sa telom telefona konektuje preko nekoliko magneta. Tasteri su mekani i pružaju vibracije pri pritiskanju. Klikovi na tastaturi mogu smetati u prostorijama gde nema mnogo buke, ali ukoliko uređaj koristite u sobama sa bilo kakvim zvukovima zujanje vibracija sa tastature će se savršeno uklopiti u ambijent.

Kada se radi o podršci za multimediju, ovaj telefon poseduje 16 gigabajta prostora za skladištenje muzičkih i video sadržaja. Ako to kojim slučajem nije dovoljno tu je i 2.0 miniSD flash kartica. Naravno, ovaj prostor može se koristiti i za skladištenje fotografija i videa koje ste napravili uz pomoć kamere od 3 megapiksela, sa opcijom autofokusiranja. Kamera pravi odlične fotografije na dhnevnom svetlu i na otvorenom prostoru, dok se pri nedostatku svetla ne snalazi baš najbolje.

Ukoliko poželite da X7510 Advantage koristite kao telefon, za to će vam ipak biti potreban par običnih ili Bluetooth slušalica, jer je razgovor preko samog mikrofona malo čudan. Ovaj uređaj poseduje i ugrađeni GPS modul koji podržava QuickGPS aplikaciju za brzo primanje signala.

Kada je u pitanju operativni sistem, stari dobri Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional radi sasvim dobar posao iako se razlike u odnosu na verziju 6.0 ne primećuju.

HTC X7510 Advantage je solidan uređaj koji će vam obezbediti dovoljno sredstava da obavite kvalitetnu prezentaciju ili ispratite konferenciju za štampu (da, novinari će ga voleti) i savršeno će zameniti nezgrapne i teške laptopove.



Ono što možda neće ići u prilog masovnijoj prodaji ovog uređaja jeste njegova cena od preko 1000 američkih dolara, ali oni koji budu imali dovoljno sredstava da nabave ovaj uređaj sigurno će biti više nego zadovoljni.

HTC announces weird looking S740

The Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturer HTC lifted the curtain on a new Windows Mobile device today. HTC S740 runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard device and sports rather unusual design. 

Coming as a successor of the HTC S730 the S740 is a smartphone with a sliding-out four-row QWERTY keyboard. It boasts a 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM7225 processor and the greatly sounding 256MB RAM.

The display of the HTC S740 is a 2.4" QVGA one (no touchscreen, of course). All four GSM bands and two UMTS (900 and 2100 MHz) bands are supported by the new phone. There is also HSDPA support to make sure that the quickest network data transfers around are available.



Coming with a HTC Touch Diamond-like back, HTC S740 has a 3.2 megapixel fixed-focus snapper on board. Some of the other more important features are built-in GPS (with A-GPS support), Wi-Fi and the HTC ExtUSB slot which combines a mini-USB 2.0 and an audio jack.



The HTC S740 is going to be available across Europe from September, but there is no information regarding its pricing yet.

It's hard to see the reason for releasing a handset such as the S730 with the HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro already available but the hardline WinMo Standard fans might appreciate it. It there is any of them left, that is.

IFA 2008: Real life pictures of the HTC S740

Today NewMobile is reporting from the IFA fair in Berlin, Germany. We found the new HTC S740, that was announced several days ago, and got a chance to test the device.The one thing you notice immediately about the design is the fact that the numeric keys aren't as shining as the press photos are suggesting. And that's good news for people with dirty fingers; the device stays clean for quite a while!



The phone is equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard that can be slide out, made of almost the same material as the numeric keys. The keyboard is comparable with the keyboard from the Touch Pro although the S740 device is considerable thinner than its touchscreen-brother.



When you slide out the keyboard, the display is automatically changing from portrait to landschape mode. The device doesn't seem to have auto-rotate through motion sensor.



The back of the device has a Diamond-style look. Unfortunately, the back hasn't got the same as the front; in a short period of time the back of the device is full with stripes and fingerprints. Even when you're very economic and you're washing your hands ten times a day, it's still pointless.




Unfortunately the device hasn't got an active SIM card and according to HTC the device has not yet a product version of Windows Mobile. It's therefore very difficult to say something significant about the functioning of the device. We therefore end with some pictures from the top and bottom of the mobile phone. Especially the last one shows how thin the device is!

HTC hits the big time - now 3rd biggest smartphone brand in Q208



HTC has managed to enter the hallowed halls of the 5 biggest smartphone producers, by not just moving from position 7 to position 5, but all the way to position 3, displacing Sharp by growing 119% and shipping 1.33 million own brand Windows Mobile smartphones.  However a total of 3.87 million Windows Mobile smartphones were shipped, and we know HTC produces about 70% of the ODM Windows Mobile devices, meaning their real shipments are a lot higher.

The data is for Q2 2008, the period running up to the shipment of the HTC Touch Diamond, so its likely HTC’s total shipments for Q3 will be even better.

Of course HTC dreams much bigger, hoping to become a top 5 phone producer, which is certainly still very far off, but they must be pretty satisfied with their performance so far.

Touch Viva: the "Opal" materializes as HTC's low-end champion



Billed as an "affordable touch phone with the benefits of HTC's TouchFLO," the Touch Viva picks up where the original Touch left off and move things just a little bit downmarket for the benefit of smartphone lovers in emerging markets. To that end, the screen stays low-end with QVGA resolution, the radio tops out at EDGE speeds, and the camera's a mere 2-megapixel piece -- but by the same token, the Viva hangs onto WiFi, 256MB of ROM, and GPS. It also gets blessed with a tweaked version of TouchFLO that doesn't rely on 3D acceleration found in HTC's higher-end units. It'll be available starting next month for what we can only imagine will be a pretty reasonable price; backup smartphone, anyone?

HTC's Touch HD unveiled in very much official glory



We're still sans a press release, but a friendly tipster found this quite official page at HTC's very own site, depicting the sexy Touch HD from every angle, with every spec exposed. The rumors were naturally spot on, but that doesn't mean we're any less enthused about the 3.8-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera, and 3.5mm audio jack. Connectivity-wise we've got Europe-friendly HSDPA, GPS / A-GPS, 802.11g WiFi (we weren't clear on that one before), Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR and a microSD slot. On the software side there's TouchFLO 3D on top of Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro. There's also a front-facing VGA camera for video calls, 512MB of ROM and 288MB of RAM. HTC expects the 1350 mAh battery to score you 390 minutes of 3G talk and 450 ours of 3G standby, with 120 minute video calls just for kicks. The phone measures 12mm thick. Still no word on availability, price, or how you're ever going to stop us from cramming Android onto this thing.

HTC Touch Diamond Coming in White



The HTC Touch Diamond is now reportedly coming in white. If you don’t like the ’stock’ black that it has been available in, perhaps the white is for you? I’m wondering if HTC took a page out of Apple’s playbook here, offering up a black and white version of the device.



The white version of the HTC Touch Diamond should be available in October for an unknown price. Which color would you prefer?
