PhoneArena must have had this review lying in the back of their draws, as no sooner has the Giorgio Armani smartphone been released, than they had a review ready.

The version they reviewed runs Windows Mobile 6.1, the device is shipped with 6.5.  That should not matter too much however, as Samsung has buried the Windows Mobile user interface pretty deeply.

The device is pretty large (Touch Pro 2 size) and heavy, and PhoneArena was not too overly impressed with the styling, describing it thus:

    As a whole, the overall look of the Samsung Giorgio Armani makes us think of these massive, diamond studded neck-chains with inscription reading P.I.M.P. on them. In other words, the flashy look and brand name of the phone make for quite an eye-catcher in a rather bulky, tawdry, gangsta way.

They were not too impressed with the keyboard either, but of course what device can compare when placed against the HTC Touch Pro 2 keyboard.

Media playback was pretty good on the device, with PhoneArena commenting:

    TouchPlayer unifies all audio, filtered by albums or artists and video content available on the device. The player itself can be operated in landscape mode as well, its large album art and rows of text that allow filtering below making it look like the one on the OMNIA HD (or the iPhone Cover Flow in particular).

Videos are showed in huge preview frames and each of them casts really nicely looking reflection downwards. You also have the intriguing option to change playback speed and we must say that Rihanna´s Pon de Replay sounds AWESOME at 1.5 times the normal speed! The good news is DivX and Xvid files are played without a hitch. Fashion buffs will be able to enjoy proper experience and see their favorite movies completely hassle free on the Samsung Giorgio Armani, provided they are not coded in HD of course.

The phone is quadband GSM and has the 900, 1900 and 2100 Mhz HSDPA bands.

Windows Mobile Giorgio Armani fashion phone real after all, perfect for managers



The Giorgio Armani Windows Mobile phone from Samsung has been rumoured for a while but a recent release of a dumb phone version had many thinking the idea has been canned.

It seems this was mistaken, with the fashion smartphone being announced in Milan today.  Unusually Steve Ballmer attended the launch (see the video below), and his appearance fee may explain the €700 (or about $1030) price tag for the Windows Mobile 6.5 device with tilting screen, QWERTY keyboard, 3.5 inch AMOLED screen 8 GB build-in storage with microSD expansion and 5 megapixel camera.

Giorgio Armani also attended, said in the statement he sought to create a phone "perfect for today’s managers." with  bronze detailing "which coordinates perfectly with Giorgio Armani suits,"

New Samsung WIMAX Windows Mobile smartphone looks pretty nice



KT has announced a new Samsung Windows Mobile smartphone, the SPH-M8400, featuring WIFI, WIMAX and 3G data.

KT said its “3W” (WIFI, WIMAX, WCDMA) smartphone will boost wireless Internet usage, especially in hot spots where the phone can access Wi-Fi through its public Wi-Fi service, “Nespot” zone.

The smartphone is a follow-up to the SCH-M8300 model, which was released on SK Telecom customers in May this year.

Uniquely KT is promoting VOIP as a selling point of the device, saying it will save customers on calling charges.

When it comes to Windows Mobile, Sony Ericsson is keeping the Faith


The DailyiPhoneBlog was able to obtain a leaked photo and some info from a tipster. The phone in question? Sony Ericsson's Faith. The Faith is another Windows Mobile device for the joint venture, running the 6.5.3 build of the OS. The QVGA touchscreen display measures 2.4 inches and the phone will support multi-tasking. A physical QWERTY keyboard is included as is a microSD slot for upgrading memory. A 3.2MP camera adorns the handset and a stylus slides out for your use. The model currently has 3G connectivity for Europe, but if you're in North America and like what you see, perhaps keeping the faith will result in an "a" version similar to the wayward Xperia X2a expected to launch in the U.S. soon.

With all of the excitement that Sony Ericsson has managed to generate for the Android wearing Xperia X10, you might ask ytourself why would the joint venture waste more time with Windows Mobile, especially in the face of the countless delays for the X2. It could be that Sony Ericsson wants to stay in the running for Windows Mobile 7 when that OS is released and is simply just trying to curry favor with the gang at Redmond by pushing out phones like the Faith. Oh, did we tell you that the latter is part of Sony Ericssons eco-friendly GreenHeart line?
