Peter North (born Alden Brown on May 11, 1957)[3][4] is a Canadian pornographic actor, director and producer of the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s.[3]
Like many pornographic stage names, North's name is a pun: "Peter" is a common slang term for a penis,[5][6][7][8] so "Peter North" most likely refers to an erection.[8] According to pornography scholar Stephen Strager, North's stage name, like that of many other male pornographic actors, "expresses the controlling man-as-penis metaphor while precisely articulating the masturbator’s big-dick fantasies."[9] The name "North" may also refer to his Canadian or northern roots.[10]
North is originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and attended James Lorimer Ilsley High School, then moved to California, U.S. in 1982.[4][11] Thousands of dollars in debt, he entered the porn business at age 24 to make money.[3] He states that he "entered the adult business in the spring of 1984 by accident. I was approached to do it but never really contemplated it or even thought I would be in the adult business."[4] In a 1996 interview published in North's hometown newspaper, the Halifax Chronicle-Herald, he stated that he was "discovered" while modeling athletic wear at a private party in Los Angeles in the early 80's.
