ShakeSMSShakeSMS is another accelerometer powered application from the Mr Tong Ren, developer of the very well known and very popular FlipSilent application.

While the older application just looks like a stolen idea and copy of the famous Samir's ShutUp soft, ShakeSMS is the very unique application that will allows you to use your phone on a completely new way.

Actually all Symbian enthusiast out there have to be happy now because after the Samir and Damian we got another talented developer with a fresh ideas on how to get the most out of the build in accelerometer.

Speaking of the ShakeSMS, it is the application that trying to deal with SMS and Phone Lock using the Accelerometers technology, to make you use the phone in an easier way at least when we come to messaging.

Try to imagine standard procedure when you are getting the SMS; first of all you need to unlock the phone, then read the message, maybe reply and finally lock the phone again.

With ShakeSMS it will be looks quite different, just shake it, read it and than just shake it again to go back to the idle screen and lock phone again, sounds good isn’t?

There is no word when application will be available or any sign how it going to looks like but developer claims that application is under heavy development and that we can soon expect the video preview.

ShakeSMS Video Demonstration

ShakeSMSWe have already inform you about the upcoming ShakeSMS, accelerometer powered application from the Tony, developer of the attractive FlipSilent application and as you may have already know ShakeSMS trying to deal with SMS and Phone Lock using the Accelerometer technology.

The main intension is to reduce the number of necessary steps that we are usually taking when we reading an incoming message. With ShakeSMS it is enough to shake the phone once, read message and than shake it once again to go back to the idle screen and lock the phone.

There is still no word when application will be available but at least we got a video demonstration that shows ShakeSMS in action. Application works fine but it is a little bit too sensitive in my personal opinion?

I mean, with such sensitivity it will easy to open the message accidentally when the phone is in the pocket for example? Especially while you doing some healthy activities like jogging or actually doing any other physical activity!?

Application on the video lacks the UI completely but I guess it is because of the early beta version and I truly hope that we’ll get an option for adjusting the sensitivity.

ShakerRacer control a real RC car with the accelerometer of the N95

When you're playing a racing game or using an RC car, you will very often move your whole body when driving through tight turns or accelerate with full speed — but the control itself is very often still done through abstract buttons on a game controller or keyboard.

ShakerRacer does not need this additional layer and allows you to control an RC car directly through your movements — by using the acceleration sensor of your mobile phone. It works in a very intuitive way: just tilt your phone in the direction you want to drive. That's it!

The car that we used is based on a standard €90 RC car bought from a toy shop. We modded it to accept Bluetooth instead of the proprietary wireless module that it was shipped with. A small microcontroller and a Bluetooth module replace the original wireless components. On the side of the mobile phone, a Python script translates the input of the acceleration sensor to commands that the microcontroller can understand in order to manage the steering servo as well as the main motor.

It turned out that this is a very intuitive and natural way to control the car. You do not need any practice as the concept can be understood instantly. So there's nothing that can block your way to fun!

Keep in mind that the phone cannot simply connect to an out-of-the-box RC car, as the standard wireless remote control of a car uses some proprietary protocol and technology for communication. Only by adding a microcontroller + Bluetooth module, you can make the car understand Bluetooth and enable it to communicate with the phone. Stephan Selinger has written some short instructions on how to accomplish this, but it requires some hardware ownership as well as –knowledge.


The Python application now uses the official Nokia Sensor-API by default. This allows using the mobile client with the Nokia 5500, N95 (Firmware 20+), N95 8GB, N93i and the N82. For the N95 with older firmware, you can reconfigure the code to still use the very nice aXYZ Python-module from Cyke64.

LoudUp & ShakeMe!? Two New Mystic Applications From Samir??

Two new mystic applications appeared on the Samir's web site without any further information and we can only try to guess what is going on? LoudUp & ShakeMe!?

It is really question if the Samir really working on something new or he is just afraid of loosing the leading position and this just an attempt to protect the cool names for the upcoming applications, to keep pace with the growing competition on the accelerometer scene?!

Damian has created some extremely cool and very funny accelerometer based applications while the Mr Tong Ren has shaken the world few days ago with its very promising ShakeSMS soft? That’s not all; I am currently testing another accelerometer based application from the new author that is expected to be released tomorrow for beta testers?

LoudUp & ShakeMe, unfortunately that’s all we know at the moment, the first one could be related to changing the current profile or maybe increasing the volume while the second one could be anything

Actually the second one reminds me on the Sony Ericsson Shake Me feature introduced with their newest walkman phone, SE W910 that changes the music track by shaking the phone so it is possible that both applications are related to music, one for increasing the volume and other one for increasing the track? Actually it is not very possible because it will be ridiculous to create a two application for controlling another one?!

KEYnetikWow, shocked, another great motion based application is on the way and it looks quite impressive on the video demonstration.

Rock 'n' Scroll is an Accelerometer based application that reminds me on the Samir’s NokMote is developed by KEYnetik, Inc. which is by the way a pioneer of motion input technology for mobile handheld electronic devices such as cell phones, cameras, media players, gaming consoles, personal navigation devices and digital assistants.

They are specialist in User Interfaces with motion input and provide electrical engineering, industrial design and software development services to help our clients with technology Adoption.

Application is currently in the last stage of development. First beta version should be available soon and best of all it will be free!!!
