Biografija

Apocalyptica je finski trio koji svira heavy metal glazbu na čelima. Skupinu čine Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen i Perttu Kivilaakso, a odnedavno i bubnjar Mikko Síren. Još od 1996. godine i izlaska njihovog prvog albuma "Plays Metallica By Four Cellos" Apocalyptica donosi novi glazbeni stil kojemu je teško dati ime. Činjenica je da, iako su im šanse bile male, nisu odustali. Ta skupina klasično izučenih glazbenika svijetu je prezentirala potpuno novi glazbeni stil spajajući heavy metal i klasičnu glazbu. Nitko prije toga nije mogao u istu skupinu staviti Bacha, Prokofieva i Shostakovitsa zajedno sa Slayerom, Pantherom i Metallicom. Dodali su pick-up i preamp svojim instrumentima koji datiraju čak iz 16. st. - čelima. Prvi album je kompletna obrada Metallice i to su učinili jednostavno savršeno. Počevši odličnom obradom Enter Sandman, preko Master Of Puppets i Creeping Death, završava nikad bolje obrađenom pjesmom Welcome Home (Sanitarium). Drugi album, nazvan Inquisition Symphony, već donosi njihove originalne skladbe kao što su Harmageddon i M.B. (Metal Boogie), ali i obrade poput Nothing Else Matters i One (Metallica), Refuse/Resist i Inquisition Symphony (Sepultura), Domination (Pantera) te From Out Of Nowhere (Faith No More). Ne mora se ni spominjati da su te obrade napravljene gotovo savršeno. S trećim albumom, Cultom, Apocalyptica nam donosi i vokale. Prvi singl s vokalima, Path Vol.2, izlazi 2001. i to s odličnom Sandrom Nasic (ex-Guano Apes). Od tada su već imali mnogo nezamjenjivih suradnji s poznatim osobama, kao što je Hope Vol.2 s Matthiasom Sayerom (Farmer Boys - ovaj singl ukljucuje i obradu Slayera - South Of Heaven & Mandatory Suicide); Linda Sundblad (ex-Lambretta) u Faraway Vol.2; nezaboravna Nina Hagen u obradi Rammsteina - Seemann; Ville Valo (HIM) i Lauri Ylönen (The Rasmus) u Bittersweet i Life Burns; Quutamo s vokalima na engleskom (How Far) i njemačkom (Wie Weit) s Martom Jandovom i francuskom (En Vie) s Emmanuelle Monet te najnoviji singl Repressed u kojem sudjeluju Matt Tuck (Bullet For My Valentine) i Max Cavalera (Soulfly). Četvrti album, Reflections, ne donosi niti jednu obradu, ali zato donosi njihove originalne skladbe. Album počinje Prologom (Apprehension) i završava Epilogom (Relief) koje je Eicca napisao za izvedbu Dostojevskovog romana Zločin i kazna. Album sadrži i singl Somewhere Around Nothing i druge odlične skladbe koje jos uvijek sviraju na koncertima. 2005. izlazi njihov posljednji (zasad) studijski album nazvan jednostavno - Apocalyptica. Sastavljen je od potpuno novog materijala, ne sadrži ni jedan cover niti jednu pjesmu prethodno objavljenu. Trenutno se dečki odmaraju od upravo završene turneje kojom su promovirali novi DVD Life Burns Tour i kompilaciju najboljih pjesama Amplified - A Decade Of Reinventing The Cello na kojem se pojavljuju dvije nove pjesme, Angel Of Death (Slayer) i Repressed, od kojih je jedna obrada, a nakon toga se vraćaju na pisanje materijala za novi album.
