New Ron Moore Show Helix Names Its Star

Billy Campbell (The Rocketeer, The 4400) has been named as the star of showrunner Ron (Battlestar Galactica) Moore’s new Syfy show Helix, reveals TVLine.

The thriller follows a team of  Once there, they find themselves involved in a life-and-death struggle “that holds the key to mankind’s salvation or total annihilation.”

Campbell will star as Dr Alan Farragut, the leader of a team of scientists who travel to the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak. Once there, they find themselves involved in a life-and-death struggle “that holds the key to mankind’s salvation or total annihilation.”

Farragut is still reeling from the affair his wife had with his brother (who has been infected with a mysterious, fatal disease).

Helix is currently expected to premiere in the States in January.

HELIX Mapped Out, Season 2 Could Feature ‘Radically Different’ Storyline & Location

Helix writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach has opened up on the upcoming arctic-based mystery thriller. Speaking on the Talking TV With Ryan and Ryan Podcast, the writer claimed the first season of Syfy’s intriguing Ronald D. Moore series has been mapped out and structured like a mini series:

    We have a series of reveals that we want to give up over the course of 13 episodes and we really look at the show as a mini series, you know we look at the show were anything can go.

Grillo-Marxuach further explained that Helix will have an overarching mythology that will glue the seasons together (should Syfy renew), with each “radically different” season focusing on a different aspect, and based in a different location, of the Helixverse:

    If  Helix goes to a second season that season may be radically different from Season 1. It may not be set in the arctic. Because we have a limited amount of episodes to tell this story, we have figured out where the story’s going and [writer/EP] Cameron Porsandeh created a spec and he had a lot of the stuff in the spec and our job has been to look at it with Cameron and [EP] Steven [Maeda] and say ‘we have 13 hours to tell the story, how do we squeeze everything out of this location and these people, and how do we get all these reveals out and leave just enough, that if we have to come back for a second season we have a great opening condition to tell another 13-episode story that is in the Helix universe with some of these characters?

    If we get a second season we will do it in a different location. We’re really looking at it as let’s play for keeps, we can’t be precious about killing [characters] or [revealing our] secrets early or later, or [thinking that] we can’t blow up the [location].
