The world's second largest phone manufacturer Samsung made sure it doesn't get left out of the spotlight at the World Mobile Congress. In Barcelona the South Korea-based company announced a hefty number of new handsets. Samsung also took the chance to show a few unreleased devices to the public.

The most prominent announcement is undoubtedly the Samsung G810. The nice 2.6" display and 5 megapixel camera are just the icing of the cake. The phone also features xenon flash and 3x optical zooming capabilities.

The rich connectivity options of Samsung G810 include 3G with HSDPA support, EDGE, Bluetooth v2.0 (A2DP also included), USB v2.0 and even a 3.5mm audio jack. Add Wi-Fi and the GPS for navigation and geo-tagging and you get a very tempting gadget indeed.

The best part is that - unlike its predecessor, Samsung G800 - the G810 is a Symbian smartphone, running on the S60 user interface - much like Nokia N95.

For the short time we were able to spend with the Samsung G810 we managed to confirm that it is at least as capable as it sounds. It feels rather large in hand but it compensates with uncompromised built-quality.

We also managed to take a few quick photos with its camera, so we can show you what it's capable of. The camera interface used is the same as the one found in Samsung G800. It also has the wide dynamic range feature, which was heavily marketed by Samsung. Anyway, check out the sample photos and see how the camera is performing for yourselves .

The next best thing we found on Samsung's stand is the full-touch UI-based Samsung F480. The 2.8" 262K color display of Samsung F480 is really one of great quality. The phone also features a 5 megapixel auto focus camera, 3G with HSDPA and tri-band GSM network coverage. All that functionality is packed in the very small dimensions of 95.9 x 55 x 11.5 mm.

However, the best part about Samsung F480 is not functionality. Instead, the strength of this little baby lies in the great user interface, which is one of the best Samsung efforts so far.

Beside the eye-catching graphics, semi transparent overlays and the rich animations, Samsung F480 offers the so called desktop widgets. Those are info applications that reside on your desktop. They are fully configurable, and movable around the screen.

The navigation solution used at the bottom of the screen is also very interesting and pleasant to work with. It is very responsive and we really liked it.

The final highlight of today's presentation is a handset Samsung are in fact putting up front. It's their latest Ultra series mobile - the largely advertised Samsung U900 Soul. This year Samsung are presenting only one Ultra device - they claim it's the quintessential mobile device that doesn't need to mix with any Ultra peers.

The Samsung U900 Soul features a 5 megapixel camera and a rather rare navigation solution - the touch-sensitive pad. The pad itself is well implemented - it offers great reaction, haptic feedback and some nice animations.

Samsung U900 Soul is equipped with a 2.2" 16M color display with QVGA resolution, which as most of the latest Samsung displays is great in terms of picture quality. 3G with HSDPA is also available, along with a whole bunch of high-end features. The build quality is excellent. We also managed to snap a few shots with the camera, so here are some sample photos.

LG Launches KF600 in Barcelona

     

LG held a press event earlier today where they displayed the new KF600, a tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900MHz) phone that looks very much like the LG Venus for Verizon Wireless. The main display is 2" in size with QVGA resolution, while the lower touch sensitive display is 1.5" with 240 x 176 pixel resolution. The bottom display is dubbed the 'InteractPad' and offers touch-based contextual buttons that will change depending upon the current menu of the phone.

The KF600 was the recipient of the IF 2008 Product Design award, and comes with 8 graphical themes specially designed by Keith Haring. A 3 megapixel camera with auto-focus and video capture is also on board, to make sure you can always remember the moment. Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP is also there, with 25MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot for plenty of expansion room.

Measuring in at 101mm x 51mm x 14mm (3.9" x 2" x .55"), the KF600's body weighs only 107g (3.8oz). The LG KF600 is available in your choice of pink (shiny or pastel), wine red, or titanium color schemes, though pricing was not announced.

LG Officially Shows KF700 Touch Phone

     

LG has unveiled its latest full-touchscreen device, the KF700, here at the 2008 Mobile World Congress. Sporting a 3 megapixel camera and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, the KF700 is ready to be your multimedia hub. The large 3" touchscreen display slides up to reveal a numeric keypad, allowing you to text and dial comfortably.

The LG KF700 also features an intuitive shortcut scroll wheel on the back of the device, which offers a shortcut to the multimedia functions from any menu, allowing users to utilize the features easily. The KF700 is planned to be available in Q1 2008. No pricing information has been announced yet.

LG Announces KT610 Symbian OS Smartphone





Today at the 2008 Mobile World Congress, LG announced its latest Symbian based handset, the S60 3rd Edition powered KT610. Featuring a unique flip screen form factor, this is the first Symbian S60 handset to sport a full VGA resolution display.

The KT610 is also equipped with a built-in GPS receiver and support for HSDPA high-speed data networks. Even more interesting is its 2.4" VGA resolution display and QWERTY style keyboard. We have no official photos of the device, but hope to get some soon.

Motorola Adds Z6w, WiFi/UMA Enabled Slider

 

Motorola updated its Z6 slider handset this morning at the 2008 Mobile World Congress with the new Z6w, adding WiFi to the mix of connectivity options on the handset. The other features, such as a 2 megapixel camera and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP are still present on this new version.

The Z6w also connects via quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz) and a microSD card slot is available for expanded memory. The Z6w is planned to be available in Q2 2008, though pricing has not been revealed

Motorola Enters With The W161 Candybar

 

Motorola, whose mobile phone division is unsurprisingly experiencing hard times, enters the scene at the 2008 Mobile World Congress with the W161, an entry-level candybar handset sporting a 128 x 128 pixel resolution monochrome display.

The W161 will be available with your choice of dual-band GSM (850/1900MHz) or (900/1800MHz) and features an integrated FM radio and support for 7 African languages. The handset is planned to be available in Q1 2008.

Motorola Unleashes W181 Candybar

 

Motorola has brought out the W181 candybar handset this morning in Barcelona, Spain, at the 2008 Mobile World Congress, showing off a 128 x 128 65k color display for an 'enhanced viewing experience'. The W181 also sports dual GSM (850/1900MHz) or (900/1800MHz) and a built-in FM radio.

The W181 is planned to hit the market in Q1 2008 in a unique licorice and sterling blue color scheme, with a chrome navigation wheel. Pricing has not yet been revealed.

HTC Launches P3470 Navigation Smartphone



Today HTC unveiled its slick new P3470 smartphone. The GPS equipped P3470 provides real navigation functionality in a compact form factor - just 108mm tall, and less than 16mm thick. Tom Tom provides the navigation software for the P3470, which ensures that users will find it easy to use and enjoy.

Other features of the P3470 include quad-band GSM/EDGE support, 256MB of internal storage that is backed up by an included 1GB microSD card, and a 2 megapixel camera with auto-focusing capabilities. The Windows Mobile 6 Professional OS will have plenty of room to work, too, thanks to the P3470's spacious 128MB of application RAM.

HTC expects the P3470's battery to last for up to 350 minutes of talk time or 10 days of standby time. The device is slated to launch across Europe later this month, starting in the UK, France, and the Netherlands with Orange for a list price of 449EUR.

i-mate unveils Ultimate 8502 and 9502 Windows Mobile smartphones



i-mate used the Mobile World Congress to unveil two new members of its Ultimate family - Ultimate 8502 and 9502. Both devices run Windows Mobile 6 Professional edition and boast such features as Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, WiFi, 256 MB ROM and 128 MB RAM, HSDPA, HSUPA, full QWERTY keyboard (the 9502 has a slide-out keyboard), direct video output, and of course the microSD expansion slot. Qualcomm's 400 MHz MSM 7200 CPU is running the show.

In addition, the 9502 model has a 3 MP camera, 2.8" VGA touchscreen and uses 1660mAh Li-polymer battery — while the 8502 has a 2MP camera, 2.6" QVGA touchscreen and relies on somewhat smaller 1430mAh Li-polymer battery…

E-TEN Announces GloFiish M810



E-TEN recently announced the M810, on display now at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The M810 is obviously the successor to the M800 and features a QWERTY keyboard and 2 megapixel autofocus camera for recording life as it happens.

The M810 Glofiish is well connected with tri-band UMTS/HSDPA and quad-band GSM/EDGE, as well as WiFi and a built-in GPS receiver. Support for Java games and applications opens up the doors for extending the

HTC Starts Shipping Shift, Updates Advantage



HTC announced at the 2008 Mobile World Congress that its Shift UMPC, which operates Windows Vista and the Microsoft Origami Experience 2.0 has been made available on three European carriers, as well as through retail outlets. The HTC Shift offers always-on 3G HSDPA (850/1900/2100MHz) support with push email and a claimed whopping 3 day battery life.

The HTC Shift sports a large 7" touchscreen display with a 40GB internal hard drive, Bluetooth 2.0, and WiFi for high-speed data. It is also the first device to offer HTC's SnapVUE technology which allows access to typical handset-related content (contacts, calendar, SMS, etc) without needing to bootup the entire device. SnapVue looks very much like Windows Mobile Professional, but is not a true version of Windows Mobile, though it does run on many of the same core components.

The updated HTC Advantage, called the X7510, apparently operates on a 'future version of Windows Mobile' and has also received an update to 16GB of internal memory. The keyboard was tweaked slightly to offer a better experience, as well. With a 5" VGA display and tri-band HSDPA (850/1900/2100MHz), the HTC Advantage is certainly a well-equipped device. The updated version is planned to be available in March 2008.

Toshiba Portege G810 – a GPS-enabled communicator

Toshiba has unveiled its Portege G810 communicator at Mobile World Congress 2008. This is a compact Windows Mobile-powered candy bar with a touchscreen and no hardware keyboard. It boasts of the support for 2G/3G networks, HSDPA and HSUPA standards. The company expects to ship the Portege G810 to Europe in 2Q 08, but it hasn’t unveiled the pricing details.

LG-KF510 – style and slim form

LG Electronics has introduced LG-KF510 phone at the current Mobile World Congress 2008 in Barcelona. This is an ultra slim fashion slider being 10.9 mm thick. Under the display you can see an interactive panel with sensor buttons. Packed in a metallic shell LG-KF510 is offered in black grey and red shell colors.



The company has provided a brief info on the specifications, but hinted at a stylish design of the phone on the first place. As for the functions mentioned, we have a built-in camera and an MP3-player. LG-KF510 will come to the main markets in March.
