Science Daily — An all-electric aircraft could soon appear over the horizon according to an article in the Institute of Physics' journal, Superconductor Science and Technology. The new type of aircraft, currently on the drawing board, could be far more efficient than conventional aircraft, produce less greenhouse emissions, and be quieter.

Vadim ovu temu svesno iz "budzaka" da bismo videli koliko se uznapredovalo u ovoj oblasti. Nas dragi Pilot (nikada necu prezaliti njegov odlazak sa ovog foruma zbog nekih koji i nisu vredni pomena) je ovo postavio pre 4 godine.

Pa evo prilike da postavimo sve sto se na planu elektricnog aviona desilo. Za pocetak (stavljam bez hronoloskog reda, to bi iziskivalo podosta vremena - koga zanima neka sam iz podataka proba da sebi napravi redosled, kao sto cu ja i uciniti unutar svoje arhive) evo  primeraka aviona na elektricni pogon koji su uspesno poleteli:

Знаш, контам да би електрични авион са hydrogen fuel cells што се користе за аутомобиле био добра комбинација. Бар што се пропелерних тиче. Млазни би морали да користе biofuel.

Bice i to. Evo ovaj Hy-Bird je bio planiran za let oko sveta (na pogon na hidrogenske celije i solarno), ali osim ove fotke gde su konstruktori sa maketom u 1:1 i nekim delovima, nisam nasao nesto. Da li je to propalo ili sta Smile. Znam da su drugi uspeli sa pogonom na hidrogenske celije (baterije). Mislim ta su to radili u Boeingu sa nekim malim avionom (neka Cessna ili Dimaond, ne secam se Smile Smile Smile), kasnije su i u Airbus-u nesto radili... Na kraju je Solar Impulse spektakularno poleteo
Ovaj projekat (zaista lep i elegantan avion,  i put oko sveta sa njim) kao da je stao  Smile Smile Smile

Take a look at the Hy-Bird, a hydrogen-powered electric airplane that gets 10% of its power from the sun. Made of super-lightweight (and expensive) carbon fiber, there’s talk of this fuel-cell aircraft flying around the world this summer, and shipping to paying customers starting next year. Could happen, because this is not the first electric airplane we've heard of, and certainly won't be the last.

Created by French company Lisa Airplanes, the idea is “to fly around the world with a 100% clean electric airplane powered only by renewable energies: solar energy and hydrogen.” The company says that power system will allow the plane to circumnavigate the globe in 3000-km stages. The electro-aviators aren't saying how much the shipping product will cost, though."

Ujkaalberte kuco stara, odlican link Smile Smile Smile Smile
A, izgleda da su Slovenci veoma dobri na ovom polju. Njihov Pipistrel sa modelom Taurus (vec sam ga gore postovao, ali evo jos nesto vise), a pogotovo Taurus G4 (letilica prakticno sastavljena od njihove dve jedrilice, sa srednjim krilom na kojem je lepo projektovana nascela sa elektricnim motorom. Taurus G4 je izgleda pobedio na NASA-inom takmicenju (Bravo Slovenci Smile Smile Smile).

CAFE is a nonprofit aiming to advance personal air travel, CAFE stands for Comparative Aircraft Flight Efficiency. The Electric Aircraft Symposium held in April in San Francisco was host to a crowd of several dozen engineers, venture capitalists, and members of clean-tech companies who plotted the potential of Electric flight. A Slovenian company called Pipistrel highlighted its newest model The Taurus Electro which can climb to 6,000 feet after taking off on a 30-kilowatt motor. Recharging the glider's lithium-polymer battery is meant to take about as long as powering a cell phone. Depending upon the weather and skills of the pilot, the glider can travel 1,000 miles in a day. Pipistrel's customers include Formula One driver Pedro de la Rosa. But even Google co-founder Larry Page, who attended the forum, might have to wait to purchase the electric Taurus if he were interested.
It is in the final stages of test flights and will be manufactured in a limited run this year, however in the United States, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) would prevent people from flying the glider under the same rules as light sport aircraft.FAA rules could change, possibly within the next year, and hopefully we may see a glider showroom in our vicinity. The glider weighs a little more than 700 pounds and costs $133,000, Chump change? For the founder of Google but for us it could be way better than being stuck in traffic in a Ferrari. Seems the days of flying to work are nearing. "

It took Pipistrel two years in the preparation and development and another four months to build the Taurus G4. But it was definitely worth the time and effort; the Slovenian light aircraft manufacturer has managed to build up the world’s most powerful electric aircraft.
With an empty weight of 2348 pounds, the aircraft’s electric battery itself consumes nearly half that. The aircraft can carry a maximum passenger weight of 3300 pounds. In other words, it is guaranteed to hold four people along with their extra baggage.
The advantages of the concept aircraft Taurus G4 include many originating in the microlight world. The light weight carbon fiber in the aircraft and its Kevlar construction give this one many attributes of a glider. Then there is a 1036 lb. lithium polymer battery pack combined with a powerful electric propulsion drivetrain, which enhances its efficiency.
Its uniquely aerodynamic design connects two Taurus G2 light weight gliders with a 15 ft. wide electric engine.
The Taurus G4 will compete for $1.65 million at the NASA’s 2011 Green Flight Challenge, beginning on September 25, against about 13 other teams. The entrants are expected to fly 200 miles in less than two hours using the energy equivalent to less than one gallon of gasoline per occupant.
Taurus G4 is a prototype that will never be available in the commercial market, unlike its predecessor Taurus Electro G2, which saw some success in that arena. Instead, this will be used in the development of motor, battery and power management system for a hybrid and electric version of Panthera, Pipistrel’s eco-plane range."

The popularity of e-concept shows the acceptance of this new technology by the companies. You might have already known about the Google-sponsored 2011 Green Flight Challenge which played an important part of increasing this new concept. The eGenius and the Pipistrel G4 were the final contestants for the $ 1.35 million competition in which Pipistrel G4 became the winner.
Both the electric flights made it to the finals by achieving the contest goal of flying 200 miles with an average speed higher than 100 miles per hour and with the fuel consumption of less than one gallon per passenger. The Pipistrel G4 scoring a 403.5 pMPGe (passenger mile per gallon of fuel equivalent) was more efficient than the eGenius which scored only a 375.8 pMPGe.
The Pipistrel G4 that was outstanding in its strategic and engineering supremacy became the world’s first four-seater electric aircraft. It was a modified Pipistrel Taurus of the same wings and fuselage with a specially developed electric propulsion system in the tail.
The mechanics of the flight are interconnected between a 145 kW motor at the center, two-meter and two-blade propeller. The 450 pound lithium polymer batteries power the motor and the whole thing is supported by 75 feet worth of wing span.
Surprisingly, Pipistrel has confirmed that they are not interested in the manufacture of G4. But by 2012, they will be coming with a more traditional-looking 4-seater christened Panthera, which comes in ICE, hybrid and all-electric versions. They are now focusing to produce a new electric flight that can move more than the speed of the sound."
